Nice cars Tofo & thanks for the input.
Seems like the wheel change is a popular choice, my only reason for questioning it is that I've driven a TDI with 18" charlestons and the ride wasn't as firm. Sure, there was a difference from my mates TDI at work which runs straight 16's but the 18's didn't feel too bad at all. This makes me question how much the 'sports suspension and, to a less degree, the 15mm lowered spring has contributed to the overall drive.
I'm in Melbourne so will chase up some suspension places for advice as I agree with what most people have said - change shocks normally means a firmer ride. However, if the standard shocks are of say average quality, they may not have the overall control to adjust themselves to the various road conditions etc. I had a brief drive of a GTI V golf a while back, granted on 17's, but I recall the ride being more controlled where as the jetta can quickly hit it stops (that's what it feels like).
Same can be said for the top of the range Honda Euro which absorbs bumps a lot better and also run 18s hence, my hesitation to solely blame the 1 inch upgrade in wheels here.
It's still under warranty, so I might even get VW to check it out, just to be sure. Based on reviews, I'm sure I'll be dismissed and they'll suggest it's the move from 17's to 18's despite the minimal differences in the sidewall numbers.
Quality is still quality, so I'll be keen to know what Koni can advise based on what I'm chasing or if anyone has done something similar here based on requirement. Thanks again - love the forum already!!
