      too easy.... nicely done.

and as a bonus, you can have rear lighting just by pulling the fog light switch.

This works fine for the MK5 Jetta as well.

I bought one of those bulbs from my local autobarn for $12 and it popped straight in.

It is brighter than before (As the OP said, not as much as i hoped, but still an improvement). If you're after a cheap, fast and easy way to brighten the way behind you, this is highly recommended.

I reckon the Jetta already has some pretty good illumination, but if this improves it then wow! I reckon I should give it a go

The Jetta's LED rear lights are very good, but I find that when reversing, the red light from the brakes don't clearly show what's behind compared with the white-ish light of the reversing light.

That said I rarely reverse without the foot on the brake pedal so the red lights are mostly engaged when I reverse.

I have noticed an improvement afterwards though.

This'll be my second holy thread revival for the day, and my final (I promise!)

I went out and bought these bulbs today. My closest Autobarn is Ipswich and for those of you who know where Toowong is, it's not close! They didn't have any, so I tried the Super Cheap and Repco in the area. Nothing. I knew that if I wanted any luck, I'd have to go to Slacks Creek and luckily, all my driving paid off

              $17.99 later, I have this:

The replaced bulb is the left one, the fog (or where it should be) is the right with the regular bulb. I'll take some tomorrow when there's more light.

Hmmm... replaced my reverse lamp with a 50w 'blue white' globe.
Lasted about 6 weeks before it burned the lamp holder to smithereens
Also caused the TPMS to fault out. (so the stealer says)
Reverting back to the glow stick standard bulb...

Ahh that sucks! I'm a little worried mine might do the same. Was it a cheap fix?

Dunno yet - it's only the black plastic bulb holder - so I'm expecting <$1000
Car has to go in for some sunroof work, seat belt (drivers) and an intermittent DSG paddle issue.
Problem is the stealer claims it's out of warranty - claims I bought the car 3 months before I actually did - all I need to do is dig up the original paper warfare.
PS sorry for the thread hijack, Bazz

Hardly a thread hijack when it's directly related to the product in question. Thanks for the head up! I'll have a look every week or so to see the condition of the holder.
