  • Reverse light bulb 50w halogen

A few have wanted brighter rev lights.
I have just fitted an 50w halogen direct replacement.
    No bulb out warnings etc.
It is a bit brighter than the 20w standard one but not as much as I hoped for. Any gain is good thought. Prob isnt getting full voltage due to lower resistance.
I dont believe there will be any heat issues either as bulb is not on long enough to heat surrounding areas. Its also amazing how hot the standard bulb gets too.
Cost about $11 from Autobarn etc.

Why wait for it to blow??

      That will never happen

        Bazzle,

I noted your inner lens is still the old (non LED cluster)? Did you test your new bulb on it for safety?

How about going for 100w of reversing power with my 'symetrical look', deleted fog light lens oprtion. LOL.

Coz I've learnt (the hard way) not to touch something that isn't broken...

The new bulb gets the same voltage, but the brightness in limited by plastic cover which in fact dissipated the light beam perhaps in non-linear way. It might be a current limiting function used by this smart electronics driven by bus network.

Also the filament in the new globe is in a different location and orientation (axial) to the original filament, so it probably isn't working as well as it could with the reflector which is (should be ?) designed for the original filament.

I was playing around with the look, new versus old in the inners.

How did you convert to 2 white? Just removed the red insert?

you would have to do more than just remove the fog lens.
you would also have to pigyback off the reverse light wiring, and hook it to the old fog light.

as for the above pic, i suspect it's photo shopped ? (could be wrong though)

                  Edit....

just seen the other pics of the car, it's not a photoshop job...my bad.....

Just left out the red filter and also the clear from the other side so they look exactly the same. Didnt bother redoing the wiring either so if you want both on you need to switch the 'fog' on via the light switch in the normal manner. Plus I'm [retty sure you'd get a loght out warning on the fog if you didnt terminate it somehow.
Its kinda nice because you have a 'manual' control over one of the reverse lights now as well. You really only need both on if you're reversing at night and need better rear visibility. I can understand that a lot of owners would like to maintain the true (red) fog light capability and keep the original look as well. As is often the case its just a matter of personal choice!

                      agree 100% it's personal choice.

if you wanted to have them both run off the reverse light switch, it would be very easy to do.

all yo would have to do is disable the rear fog light using VAG-COM, and then piggyback the wires.

                      Jason.

You can keep the fog light if you want. That's what Diodes are for.

last time i was in really heavy fog, i was riding my FJR back home from nowra up to sydney.
coming through appin rd, the fog got so thick, i litterally could not see the road.
it was so thick that the fog was condensing on me and my helmet as i was passing through it.

i had to slow to about 25-30kmh, with hazards on, and even then, i was riding by looking at
the lines right near the front wheel. could not see crap.

it was no fun at all.

                            Jason.

a diode wont do much here (unless you want a white fog light)
as there is only room for the one globe in the fog light housing, it would not be feasible to have both the fog and two reverse lights.

Lol was just thinking that.. I was thinking about ordering a LHD inner cluster so it'd be white and doing the whole manual reverse light thing. Then in summer change the bulb/cluster back to red in case we get any freak tropical storms..
