Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Alrighty, what could it be?

I've posted this in the problems register but now I'm interested to see if there's a smple explanation for this:

    1. When I turn the car off, the radio is supposed to stay on until I remove the key right? Well sometimes the radio cuts out immediately. Sometimes, I leave the key in the ignition after I turn the car off (with the window down) at home and the radio will sponateously come on about 15mins after turning the car off..

    2. I have the automatic door lock activated. Sometimes when I drive over the set speed, the doors will lock then unlock immediately. Sometimes doing a rapid lock/unlock cycle. At this point I will usually hear a faint chattering sound coming from the dash just behind the steering wheel.. To solve the lock/unlock problem, I usually have to pull over/stop the car and press the unlock button. Then they will behave normally.

And finally; 3. Tonight when I turned the car off, the interior courtesy lights wouldn't come on. I tried it 3 times and gave up..

    Thanks!

Haha in my garage? It's a loud car, i'd have plenty of time to run after it provided the thief warms the glow plugs first

Connecting it to the Vag-com (VCDS) would be a good starting point.
How old is it and how many km's?

It's a late '07 build MY08 and it's done about 28,000km (going in for 30k service in 2 weeks). I don't have a VAG com cable but would it be able to pick up these sort of faults?

            Maca,

you would be surprised at what sort of errors it can pick up.

i had my car scanned about a month ago, and it reported a fault with the drivers door central electronics.
just this week, it has developed a faulty speaker wire.

up untill this week, all appeared fine, but there was obviously a fault there, and now it's gotten worse...

            Jason.

I'd have to say that your bet is correct!

Last night while waiting for a friend, I was sitting in my (off) car with the key in the ignition listening to my iPod (through Aux).. The suddenly EVERYTHING started flickering! The dash lights, headlights, radio, window switches.. Everything! Then when I jiggled my key, it all stopped.

Then I lightly touched the key again and it all started up... Freaky crap, I can't imagine what it looked like from outside

After we had dinner, I turned out of the carpark and must've hit the key ever so lightly with my knee and whatdoyaknow? The car cut out!! The car came to a halt and would not start again.. Here I am in the middle of Millenium Blvd at Carindale just stopped with my hazards on. I tried to start it about 4 times before I realised it was in Drive. I then shifted it to Park and it started first go..

Hopefully VW can pick up the problem with VAG com and I won't need to make 2 trips to the Gold Coast..
