Very nice write up and pics to match!

Enjoy the big brake upgrade and the coilovers for track duties! The wheels match it to a T as well!

Did the APR exhaust include the dump pipe?

My car also had trouble on the Dyno with DSG - Both Bazzles and mine have the same same mods (i have a filter) and there was 20KW difference at the wheels!

The car looks fantastic. I love yellow cars.

The car was remapped, and the performance increase, although not as noticable as the tune, was up quite considerably. This was also likely due to the reduction in sprung weight on the front wheels....
Could you explain these 2 statements please?

How would lighter brakes reduce rolling resistance? Do you actually mean unsprung weight?

How does reducing unsprung weight of the brake calipers aid in increasing performance (I assume you mean acceleration)? I can see it would improve the operation of the suspension but I can't see how it would affect acceleration. Reduced weight in the wheels would help acceleration but not brake calipers (or are the new disc rotors lighter?)

brad, I think you'll find that kryten2001 probably meant "unsprung weight" and not "rolling resistance".

Well, as for acceleration, minimal if any since you quite rightly point out, if the weight of the wheels were significantly lighter, the torque or force to have it spun up to a certain rpm would be lessen - hence translating to better acceleration and braking, since the mass is reduced. As for lighter brake calipers leading to better acceleration, ummm, unless they were 40Kg each before and the brembos 5Kg each, there wouldn't be much of any difference I would have thought. It would significantly improve roadholding though - reduced unsprung weight.

          Holding a gear

Firstly great write up and some very nice mods, the way I like it. All functional mods with great taste (i want them wheels LOL)
Your Pirelli gets me a littttttle too excited

The best method I have found for holding a gear is to select D and then push shifter to the left for Manual Mode.
After doing this the car will not shift down unless you floor the accelerator and then press that little bit harder to compress the kick down button under the pedal.
It will still kick down if the revs are out of boost zone though as you all may know :p

Great write up. If I had a Pirelli and the cash, I think I'd do basically the same mods.

I've love to know what she does down the 1/4 mile.

What have you heard about the Carbonios Kryten? I'm thinking about getting one for my tiguan, I'd like to know if there's any issues?

There is a big difference between the FSI and TSI ones so any problems with the earlier model ones wouldnt relate to the TSI model anyways

Don't take my word for gospel by any stretch of the imagination - but I've heard they are more form over function and provide negligable/questionable gains. I think I read about it on another forum, not sure...

You gotta be a bit careful to seperate fact from fiction when it comes to CAI, that much I have learned. Some can actually hurt your bottom end, where you spend a lot more time driving.

The carbonios dont do crap (old version) as it only replaces the stock air feed at the front of the car and not the actual intake pipe or type of filter.

nah mate, I didn't end up going through with it. I might do it at a later stage, but I'm happy with it as it is.

Yep, it will still shift when it hits redline (6500) so your dyno operator needs to know a bit about what he's doing.

I did get some results on the dyno, but they were very inconsistent/sketchy, plus the car was spinning up like crazy (smoked it up on the dyno) - so I'm going to have another crack at it next week on a hub dyno before I draw any conclusions.

What I can tell ya is it was showing 5100N of tractable effort and it wound out to 290km/h. Not sure how that equates to anything, but the kW figures were all over the shop. The graph looks like a rollercoaster due to it changing gears and spinning up the wheels on the dyno.

Hopefully next week I'll have a better idea where it's at. I'm hoping for 200kW or thereabouts at the wheels.. If I don't get it, I fear that big boy Garrett turbo will follow shortly thereafter.

Have you been able to replicate the issue? Probably your coil pack.

Thanks for the info guys, the new TSI setup is apparently an enclosed pod so different to the old ones. I'm not really that bothered about performance gains (certainly don't want to lose though e.g open ghetto pod), after more induction sound really. Anyway, I won't hijack the thread anymore

I just took the time to read this thread and I'm glad I did. Fantastic efforts on your behalf Kryten, I'm very impressed. The car looks exactly what I'd expect if it to look like if someone with good taste got onto it so the hat's off to you there, sir!

                                Keep up the good work!
