Forget transplanting a VW engine into the elise, the tried (and proven) approach is a honda vtec unit with supercharging options available. There is a mob in NSW that fit this with a custom subframe (around $15k from memory) with a resulting car that destroys porsche gt3's around the track - and just about everything else you can throw at it - and can still be driven on the road.Gmk2

if you want a track car
spend the money
or shut up
its simple as that
motorsport isnt cheap, its a fact.
buy an audi "S Series", or AMG or M. they are built for track/street use.
no other way of saying it lolWhat’s behind you doesn’t matter..

The GTI isnt a track car as you have already pointed out. But its one of the best practical cars with some spice going around. I think that track cars are a waste of money too. You only race the clock and you then you break down on the way home as you expect it to be a daily driver as well.
Buy a race car and go racing. I cant afford to dedicate massive amounts of money to a race car, so I race karts (not cheap, but one of the cheapest forms of motorsport). I have several friends wtih japanese track cars (skylines, sylvias, supras....etc) and they spend shed loads of money and they seem to spend more time in the workshop than on the road.
Just my opinion and hope you enjoy your next project! Cheers.MY10 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon 2.0 TSI 6sp Man
