Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    34 psi is what I set most of my customers Mk5 15in tyres at by the way

      No, you wrote that you rotate your tyres every 10 kilometres. We know you meant 10,000km. Mav was making a joke. You must have left your sense of humor behind with your jack & rattle gun.
      Yes 34psi is just fine in a 15" tyre

        If you put on a soft compound, it'll wear out, simple as that.

        Currently have on the car Yokohama C-Drives.
        Quiet, just as grippy and seems to be lasting just as long.

        Yes, you are right mate. GD Excellence perhaps more suit Corolla.
        I just spoke with Yokohama reseller and he's said the same.

          With my wifes 2004 Golf 1.6L Trendline with Comfortline alloy wheels we got nearly 70k out of 2 of the original Michelin Energy tyres. (Our son has a younger Mk 5 and his Golf came with Goodyears). The other 2 original tyres were still ok. So last year we put 2 new Michelin Premacy LC on the front and a few weeks ago @ 82k replaced the other 2 with 2 more Premacy LC. Last year they were were $173 ea. This year we paid $215. I like the idea of Michelin.... these are supposed to save fuel and be quieter. I think this time in 15k we'll get the tyres rotated front to back again. In both cases we went to JAX tyres Epping (Melb)

          Otherwise at 83k the Golf has never run better or sweeter. The Michelins might seem indulgent but when you've had a car from new, its now paid off, I don't mind spoiling it. Good tyres always seem money well spent.

          Having said that my daily driver has Korean Nexen's 225/50/16s on it @ $520 a set. These seem as good as tyres as I've had. Quiet, good grip. Thats on a Twin Turbo Nissan with about 280HP.

            Anyone have experience with Yokohama and the new BluEarth AE01 tyres?

            Also will going up to 205's effect anything ?

              We’ve got Toyo Teo tyres on my wife’s MK V TDI.
              I reckon they grip as well in the wet and dry as the original Continentals but the original tyres lasted 48,000km, the Toyo’s are also much quieter.
              The car has now done a touch under 100,000km and I reckon there’s another 15,000-20,000 left on the Toyo’s. That’s about 70,000km of life which I think for the price ($150 each) isn’t too bad.
              Very happy with them and will be purchasing another set when the time comes.
