Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i have the vw one and it works great. Was recently towing a rideon mower and it told me on the display that the right rear globe on the trailer was defective...sure enough it was....replaced the globe and all good to go again.

It also has the wiring for a braked trailer just in case you tow something a little more serious at some point...like a really nice boat

looks great too with the little cap that covers the ugly bits

    cheers

A towbar is available for the R32

The chassis rail in the 32 is identical to the GTI - the VW towbar doesn't fit but there is another option.

You need a Hayman Reese towbar (i have one on my GTI) and a relay box for the lights (essential). Install looks really clean.

I installed the towbar and electrics on my car, however I spoke to Aranda Towbars in Brisbane before undertaking. They have installed a Hayman Reese towbar on an R32. Obviously sits between the exhaust pipes on a 32.

Got some pictures to share, mate?

I couldn't see it being possible without putting an enormous hole in the bumper.

Well- the plastic cap for my tow ball was stolen at a supermarket car park today.

Bag loads of bad luck to the shmuck who stole it!!!

Anyone think it really matters to have the metal ball protected from weather by plastic cap anyway???

the plastic caps are about $2 IIRC. alternatively use a tennis ball. Or remove the gooseneck when not in use so that people don't walk into them.

Here's a pic of the hayman reece towbar on a gti, it would sit in between the exhausts on an r32:

Pics of the hr towbar on a standard mk V, much neater install, I think I'll be getting one.
