  • chipped windscreen

Got my windscreen chipped while driving down stupid Monash Freeway with bloody roadworks!! 1cm in from the edge, crack goes from bottom right corner for about 7 inches!! Apparently it can't be repaired, and AAMI insurance can't send anybody out to look because it's a Sunday!! Lame!!!

yeh, b'coz the origin of the crack begins 1cm in from the edge of the windscreen they can't fit their machine to refill. Needs to be at least 5cm in from the edge.

Just gonna make an insurance claim.. I paid for the windscreen option on my policy, and apparently am allowed to make 1 windscreen claim a year - so this is it!!

If you have got the Windscreen replacement option from AAMI, I highly recommend you get a VW original windscreen... (its more expensive), but its geniune and doesn't cost you any more.

yeh, apparently I have to lodge the claim tomorrow 'coz no AAMI assessors work on Sundays, so I'll mention that when they come out tomorrow

              cheers

I had mine replaced at the dealer under insurance, no problems at all.

If you make a claim to get the "free" windscreen replacement, don't you have to pay the excess? When I went to do that, the excess was $400 and the windscreen itself was $300 fitted...

yeh? How long did that take? And did they have the windscreen there or did it have to be ordered? And how long does it actually take for them to replace it?

                      They can't fix a 7" crack!

There have been some replaced on here and golfmkv, the ones with the non genuine windscreens had problems and the ones who went genuine had no problems. Some of the fitters also damaged sensors etc and the windscreen had to be replaced again.

I think it's around $700 for a genuine windscreen fitted because it has part of the RLS on the glass.

I booked the car in, I can't remember the time line but it would have only been a couple of days notice. It was supposed to have been done in a day but they damaged the new one going in, got a replacement on the same day but asked to keep the car overnight for the sealant to cure properly. Picked the car up the next day.

I'm with Shannons & it didn’t affect my excess.

                          Cheers

                            CUPRA:
                            Thanks for that

                            Maverick:
They couldn't repair because the originating crack is only 1cm from the edge, and the machine requires at least 5cm from the edge of the windscreen

As for the excess - well, the option I selected was a no excess option for an additional $50 on top of premium
