  • Motor Magazine Tuner Challenge (Invite to Bug_Racer, Quick_A4)

    From here:

I just phoned the organiser, plenty of time to still enter.

Now here is a chance to put up your best effort (Posted it in MKV forum - thought that would be the best spot).

It's in Bug_Racers own backyard, so should be perfect for him!

We will attempt to bring our GTI & S3 down for it, got to work out the logistics of getting them down (and me)- anyone in the car carrying business?

Will suit the big HP people as well - as there is a dyno test & also 1/4 mile runs - all count to the final score.

All done by a magazine & independent pro drivers.

Lets get some VW pride happening. - Apparently there are STi's, EVO's, FPV's HSV (including twin turbo versions), a Golf R32, a Shelby GT500 ??, C63 AMG, blown XR8's.

Will be an awesome opportunity for the Melbourne big turbo GTI's to come out (Hong Chau & Andrew Lin). Contact details are on the PDF on the link.

    Go VW's

    RULES:
-All vehicles must be street-legal and be based on a standard vehicle available for public sale within Australia after 2007 Model Year.

that might be a problem for the people you called out.

I thought Andy Lin, Hong Chau both owned MK5 Golfs (dont worry, all MKV's are eligible, as they were basically the same from 2005 - 2009) - I know, because ours is technically a 2006 model.

I invited Bug_Racer & Quick_A4 as they are the tuners & suppliers of the products.

      Is that OK?

its got an R36 motor in it now hehehehehe

im tempted to come up, but my R32 isn't exactly a powerhouse. G-rig's is more modified than mine, or even apmitchell's HPA Turbo R32.

Turbo R32 will be awesome. I think there will be modified Skyline R35's there, so really need some competition.

Can you make sure the others get the invite then?

GO GUY!! Glad your getting to cars to have a crack at this! Will be good promo for the business, and maybe you can hit APR up for some sponsorship

The S3 should be a decent threat, but a worked R35 would be hard to beat...

Not got anything new enough to play in that game Guy. My S3 is 2000 and I haven't got around to doing much to it yet anyway. Not sure the few Polo's I have done would make the trip. Shane's would be the on at the moment.

Would have been nice to have a go though. Maybe next year....

                        another question:

Having read the entry form and requirements and the fact that all vehicles must be "street legal" and "all vehicles must comply with ADR" how would any of our cars with big turbo kits meet these rules??

aren't the BT kits technically illegal LOL or require engineers certificates etc.

                          Seems like a reasonable event.

                          Looking at rules 07 onwards,
                          street legal and adr compliant.

this would have to actually mean stock turbo setups, as i dont know of many
aftermarket turbo kits that have actually had emmisions and adr testing, other than a few kits or subaru and evo's, and i think one or 2 small supercharger kits for V8's.

Yup probably look at entering a stock turbo's car just with giac program and exhaust, i think that would be sufficient to do well.

so are we all in for it?

From memory I think a BT with an internal gate is legal, external is not.

I guarantee many of the jap tuners will have external gates though...

but do they meet ADR rules though?
