Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i just installed a BMC into my R and LOVE the sound.. the car is a little more responsive as well.. if in melb i know a dealer that will supply to you at a very good price - PM me for details. You will also need a silicon elbow ($90) to join the two - took me 15 minutes to install

I went for the plastic edition (DIA) instead of the carbon (CDA) due to $ - same filter/same noise

I wouldnt go above a 2.5" system for your GTI - 3" is just stupid if you want any backpressure left!

3" is an excellent size for the MK5 GTI & Smoothcall is correct, you need to check what software is available from your vendors & for what hardware.

All software will adapt a certain range, just like your stock stuff.

There is specific software for the larger diameter (exhaust gas temperatures on the FSI cars change dramatically with exhaust changes), and also for the replacement of the dual catalyst system for a single high flow version (yes - still 100% legal).

        exhaust

I have no idea what chip is in the car but it bloody flies compared to a standard one.
I have just purchased the car, it was a decesead estate and was compnay car as the guy owned the company, but the other directors have no idea what chip was put in it.
How would i find out what brand chip it is, will there be a sticker somewhere??

          jcg1,

No idea - If you get the original service manual (with the owner or company inside) we can check if it has APR or Oettinger software installed (with the help of Volkspower in VIC)

            car

the car came from brisbane so im tipping it has the apr chip in it.
Although the exhaust light keeps coming on in the dash. I have been told this is normal for a car that has a chip in it.
i might take a drive up to volkspower on thurusday see if they can pick it some how.

Definately not normal, a few minutes at Volkspower & it will be sorted. Could be anything. The "check engine light" is not only for emissions related codes, it covers a host of other things as well.

Give me a call if we can help you out!

P.S. what sort of exhaust is on it? I might know the car personally.

you need to go get it checked out.

                          it's definately not normal.

and if you went to an offical VW dealer, I doubt they'd know a whole heap about flashing.

exactly right... The less resistance the turbo gets the quicker it should spool up! (correct me if I'm wrong here!)
