I've driven manuals all my life and decided to go with DSG. I love it.

There's a thread on golfmk5 concerning reliability of DSG:

        How is your DSG going?

all i can say is test drive them both... and take the dsg for an extended test drive. do lots of stop start driving with it.
i have it in my jetta and would prefer the manual.

I drove manual for almost 2 years then changed to DSG.. I'd have to say I prefer the DSG solely because of the crappy Brisbane traffic. But beware, once you've gone DSG, you can't ever go back to a normal Automatic.

Also, test drive both (if possible). I found the manual TDI Jetta was really gutless compared to the DSG

                      This.

DSG = new generation of gearbox's, + you get f1 style paddles on the wheel and 8/100ths of a second changes.. whats not to love? when u hit traffic u just put along and dont worry about riding the clutch...

                      to the DSG!

this topic was discussed recently I think in this thread.

I think its a bit difficult for other people to answer this one for you though. Cos everyone has their own opinion. Personally im not much of a DSG fan. Whilst I see its benefits. And sometimes when im stuck in bumper to bumper traffic I wish I had one. I enjoy the satisfaction one gets when fishing through the gears on a nice piece of road. Its just more fun really.

But in saying that - if your left leg can handle it, go a Manual!

DSG is a beautiful piece of engineering... and great for stop start traffic.

but it bores me in a way. and it is the main reason why i didnt upgrade my mkV GTI to the pirelli. i live in the country and the manual is much more satisfying.

It's a fairly hard choice cgti73, I ended up getting a manual. Hard for other people to decide for you depends on a few things like if you drive in start stop traffic every day, or really enjoy driving and the interaction/control of the car.

DSG is very good and wouldn't mind a car with it, but just heard it's not for everyone and thought i'd get bored once the novelty of the paddles wore off, and find myself driving an auto.

Also also recommend a short shifter , i got a Forge one including side to side and it makes the gear changes and feels more satisfying.

If you ever did go all out with power upgrades it would be easier with a manual and can put more power through it without having to do expensive DSG upgrades i believe.
