Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'd go with the 2nd ones, the detroits (huff replicas). They look nice and very OEM but i have not seen many done it Oz

The 3rd ones have been done to much.

Have you guys noticed any change in the speedometer readings with the upsize of wheels?

Not that i'm aware of, although i didn't have our 16's on long enough to really notice much of a difference anyway.

Ended up sticking with the 16s as I didnt want to hurt fuel economy or acceleration .. So I fitted some brand new Kumho KU31s which were awesome on my mx5

Do new tyres need to be worn in? Cos with the ku31s the steering is now too light with no feel... And I'm doing wheel spins now on fast acceleration which isn't comforting ..

Anyone know wtf. Is going on?

I kinda regret no getting a set of 17" Fox rims with some Falkens for 500 or so extra...

Assuming you've done more than 50km on the Kumhos (so that the release agents have well and truly worn off), then check your tyre pressures - it sounds like they're much too high.

Shouldn't change more than a couple of % (up or down) if you choose the correct width/profile tyre to go with the upsized wheels.
