  • 91RON fuel used for GTI ARGHH!!

Guys, my g/f has had to fill up on 91 ron (she realised too late she only had 10km in the tank and was at a station with only 91ron, rushed for work etc etc).

Ive read a few threads that the car will basically de tune to accomodate the fuel, but appears that no lasting damage will result.

She put in $10 worth (about 120kms), so should i just be runing it down to vapour now, or putting in some of the special boost mixture that stations sell...or do anything else?

If special station boost mixture, how much of it, and which brand is recommended? I have had no experience with this stuff before.

Just put 98 in and forget about it. No big deal.

Don't panic, just put some good stuff in as soon as you can. If it's chipped don't flog it until you have filled the tank with some 95 or 98.

You won't cause any damage, the ECU will look after the engine.

you can run most 98 octane cars on 91.. just drive them VERY sedately.. dont put your foot down and generally they wont ping..

the only other enemy when running low octane fuel is hot weather..

The car has a knock sensor... so all thats gonna happen is more fuel consumption and/or less power. No big deal.. If you don't flog it, then it probably won't ping (knocking sound).

Just fill it up with 98 Octane when you can or 100 Octane if you really want to 'balance' it back out - but not neccessary.

Oh haha no! Should've mentioned that it was about 6 months ago when I had my Bora. And it was one of those stupid Mobil stations that use numbers instead of words to describe their fuels.

Mrs must be tight only putting $10 worth in. I reckon that kind of "error" requires a BJ for forgiveness.

Top it up with a full tank of 98.

It's those sort of situations where you're happy she was being tight and not generously splurging by filling up.

That's because you don't have a modern engine

The R32 engine is so old they didn't have super petrol on the market when it was launched
