  • Insurance Renewal

Ok just got my Insurance Renewal today.. AAMI seems to go up every year (around $100 bucks each year), so this year I've decided to shop around, and found Shannons and Bingle.com.au are cheaper (ie. at least $200 cheaper). I probably won't go Bingle because i really don't know what they've cut out, but Shannon seems to be pretty competitive and covers basically everything AAMI does.

    RACV/NRMA - too expensive.
Allianz - Website says it doesn't cover my age (under 30 for a GTI)
Just Cars - No point since I can get better insurers. (nominated drivers only policy + hefty excess levels)

Any other ones I should try? Anyone here with Shannons? Anyone here had an accident and made a claim through Shannons?

    I'm in the same boat.

With RACV at the moment, last year it was 1300, this year they want 1500 for my GT TSI

I dropped AAMI this year after 10 years with them for the same reason, switched to Real Insurance..

AAMI used to be the cheapest for me... but I think they've got a new calculation regime happening, and its just been going up and up for the past 2 years.. without me even making any claims.

RACV was always expensive... you'll be surprised at the quote comparisons between RACV vs the rest....

$1500 is a lot btw... Currently AAMI wants $1200 from me, while Shannons wants $1000 bucks.

I'm going through the same process for my GT TSI at the moment in Perth. My findings are:

          SGIO $660
          HBF $622
          RACWA $768
          QBE $1048
          Allianz (VW) $999
          bingle $630
          Shannons $755

Based on minimum 35 yo driver, lockup garage, private use etc

Apples aren't apples though so don't necessarily get the cheapest if they don't offer glass replacement, hire car, NCB protection et.
I'll likely go with Shannons as they seem to offer the full 'all frills' cover at the medium price.

GIO wanted 2300 from me 2yrs ago haha. RACV has been a consistent 1300ish last 2 years, for some reason they turned out to be good value compared to others.

Just did some quick online quotes :

            Shannons - $1630
QBE - won't insure me because I'm under age and drive a turbo car ( they didn't say what particular age I'm under )
            AAMI - $1580
            Bingle - $1060

I agree with you about getting a 'full featured' comprehensive cover, as I believe those policies are a bit more flexible (ie. I hate named driver policies) and probably a smoother claim process. Shannons has been around for a while as well; so for a saving of $200 over AAMI, I'll probably go with them... Moreover, you can pay by the month without it costing more! Perfect!

Shannons - says to call them

I'm surprised at RACV being @1300 while AAMI is $1580.. Which suburb are you in? RACV must not like Springvale...

I've been with Shannons for a few years now. Claims are over the phone & hassle free.

                    I'd seldom had a claim prior to signing up with them, now the total is;

Paid out the Type III sedan that buent to the ground (& refunded the cost of the tow truck)
                    Windscreen claim on T4 Transporter
$1600 damage to the T4 after hitting the pole in Broken Hill
Window claim on Golf III & T4 Transporter after vandal attack
Windscreen claim on Golf V after a truck threw a large stone at us on the way home from the Nationals.

No problems so far, butn you wouldn't blame them for not insuring us now.

Ouch , just to wind you up my golf 1993 cab, fully comp RACQ is $420 per year.

I have looked around but cannot seem to improve on it.

My insurance dropped when I changed from the MKIV to the Jetta.
Was told because Jetta is still relatively new accident stats are still low

My Insurance renewal was just paid recently with RACQ and was $ 503.07.

This is for a 2007 GTI - MY08 with DSG, Leather and Sat Nav. I am 31 and a rating 1.

They also tried to include a "performance car excess" but after a couple of phone calls I manage to have this removed, so only the basic excess applies.
2007 GTI (MY0 - 5dr, Silver, DSG, Leather, Sat Nav, Euro plates

I'm on rating 1L with RACV and I found that if I "moved" to somewhere like Glen Waverly, I'd save another 2-300 pa. Save another 100 pa if I'm a female driver. Save 40pa if I had a Golf GT Sport TSI instead of my GT TSI
