Best time to buy a GTI?

That's right triode12, but that's the beauty of the internet.... Its just as easy to buy off the internet and follow up with a phone call from anywhere in Oz and you can shop around till you get the best deal....

Most dealers are willing to ship to wherever if you don't want to go and pick the car up yourself

I personally find the bigger cities like Melbourne and Sydney to be a lot more competitive and more willing to bend backwards - just because there are that many more dealerships in the city.

Not if the car you want is already in the hands of a dealer. If the dealer doesn't want to reliquish his stock to a competitor (you are dealing with) and unless you are willing to compromise on the colour, factory options and no. of doors...you'll have to pay more for the car you want.

I just bought a GTi 5dr Black Magic, DSG, Black Leather, tinting for $43,485 drive away. The car is coming from Sydney and should be delivered this week.

I originally wanted a sunroof too but was told that there werent many left with sunroofs in the colour combo I wanted.

I got quoted roughly the same price for a regular GTI also but I ended picking up a 3dr GTI Pirelli for $43,900 with parking sensors! Just a heads up for anyone looking for a GTI/Pirelli

Don't worry, there are lots of Pirellis left, at least 50 scattered around the country.

Still seems to be plenty of stock around, just ordered a white Gti 5dr (leather, sunroof, nav etc etc) delivery next week. Every VW dealer I spoke to had several GTi's in stock and access to whatever colour/specs I liked.

Hard to say what the drive away price was as I traded my Subaru on it, I can say it was 20k cheaper than a bare bones S3 to changeover though.

Not Bad, but someone bought a Pirelli (DSG) 5 Door with Rear Sensors in Black for $44,500 at Barloworld. Congrats anyway, it is a great car

That is what I originally wanted but they wouldnt budge on the price for a Pirelli mainly because stocks are low.

And they're all separate, the pick of the two are Highway Auto and Ian Boettcher, Austral are complete pricks and make sure you get everything in writing as they'll do anything to get a sale.

From my experience, I agree. Highway Auto and Ian Boettcher were helpful, knew their cars AND wanted to deal. I found that my salesperson at Austral acted as if they were doing me a favour by talking to me and really only wanted to do a deal after I committed to another car. Go to them first not last.

I couldn't agree more about Austral's appauling service. Some time back I enquired about an R32 and GTI and the salesman was so full of himself that his arrogance turned me off the whole idea. Now months later I am keen to find out what Highway and Ian B. (sorry but I consider them to be in Brisbane) have to offer.

One of the salesman, Nathan at Highway OWNS an R32. He is very enthusiastic when talking about it. Get in touch with him - at least you will be talking to someone who likes the car enough to fork out their own money to buy one.

Has anyone ever asked the salesperson what car they actually own? Most of the time I have just received evasive answers like "well I have just sold my fully blown race car"

I tend to ignore statements like "I have one of these" because how can you be sure? The guy at Austral said he didn't have either a GTI or R32 and when I insisted on seeing an R32 he tried to put me off saying that it was over priced and even got another salesman to agree.

That is true. I was eyeing off a black R32 on the internet and rang Highway VW about it. When I rang back, Nathan who is the salesman there actually bought it himself. No luck for me...

He is a really nice guy to deal with and very enthusiastic over the phone and had arranged the car to be checked out by my friends who live in Brisbane.

I thought I was the only one? I talked to one of the sales persons ages ago and talked about 'high performance' cars, I told him I used to own a 380whp Nissan Silvia then he then further told me he had just sold his '69 Camaro that ran 10 second passes before buying his Mercedes S500.

I don't know if that's the truth or not but it wasn't something I really cared about...
