Best time to buy a GTI?

Price seems fair, provided it is a drive away price. Doesn't appear like much off from volkswagen's RRP.
Did you consider second hand and save yourself thousands of dollars and avoiding the depreciation hit? Like the other aforementioned comments, try and get some freebies thrown in to sweeten the deal.

Mate, thanks for that and I do remember talking with you before you bought your .:R
You've got a great car there, but I do want to take advantage of the 30-50% investment incentive so generously offered by Uncle Kev..... so a new or ex demo is much better suited for me......
To be honest as well, if that incentive wasn't there, I'd certainly will be looking at a second hand one, but prices are still fairly spiked
Say on carsales or carpoint, people are still asking mid $40K for 06/07 jobbies without sunroof and about 30K and no toys attached. Mind you, for the price difference of say $10-13K, I'll get a brand new car with 0K and a full 3 yr warranty.
I know I'm going to be hit pretty hard on that steep depreciation curve but as one of our members Gehard says "when you lie on your death bed".......
I just want to know if all you guys think it is a fairly good deal....
Thanks for your advice and how is your .:R going matey?sigpic2009 .:R32 • 5Door • Black Magic • DSG • Sunroof • Stubby Antenna

Didn't realise you were eligible for the tax break. With that in mind, i would certainly opt for brand new then, since ex-demo's savings wouldn't amount too very much, and god knows how those cars have been treated on the first few thousand odd km's. Better having peace of mind.
Have you tried going from dealer to dealer with a quote and seeing if they could compete with it. That tactic seems to be pretty good when i was shopping around. They seem to also take you more seriously, when you wave a wad of cash around them as a show of commitment.
My cars, been great thus far, *touch wood, although i have been babying it alot more then my previous car. First time ever owning a volkswagen and i can see its widespread appeal. It's almost the "perfect" car in my humble opinion.

But same car in black leather was asking 55,000. I asked why. The answer was latte leather has poorer resale value. With roof (and as above spec with black leather) is 57,000.
Don't know about other color combinations though as I was after DBP only.Last edited by kctt; 15-06-2009, 09:43 PM.2008 R32 5 door DSG Deep Pearl Blue - APR Stage 1

[QUOTE=kctt;341655]The cheapest quote I got was 53,900 - DBP, 5door, DSG, no roof with latte leather.

That's about the same numbers I got when I went shopping from Sydney to Canberra to Melbourne.....sigpic2009 .:R32 • 5Door • Black Magic • DSG • Sunroof • Stubby Antenna

I just bought a GTi 5dr Black Magic, DSG, Black Leather, tinting for $43,485 drive away. The car is coming from Sydney and should be delivered this week.
I originally wanted a sunroof too but was told that there werent many left with sunroofs in the colour combo I wanted.

That's right triode12, but that's the beauty of the internet.... Its just as easy to buy off the internet and follow up with a phone call from anywhere in Oz and you can shop around till you get the best deal....
Most dealers are willing to ship to wherever if you don't want to go and pick the car up yourself
I personally find the bigger cities like Melbourne and Sydney to be a lot more competitive and more willing to bend backwards - just because there are that many more dealerships in the city.
Playing one against each other ensures a good dealsigpic2009 .:R32 • 5Door • Black Magic • DSG • Sunroof • Stubby Antenna
