Just to let you guys know, been out asking about the Pirelli; there are basically none left with any options. Only a handful left in Victoria but are the standard non-optioned up ones.

Not sure about the Standard GTI though, but seems they are going pretty quickly as well.. purely because they are such value for money now (a saving of over 10k from when i bought mine '06)

      Hmmm...

I sat down with a dealer two weeks ago to check what was available (VW stock in Australia) and there were quite a few Pirellis left at that time. Perhaps their driveaway deals are proving very successful? I would imagine the standard GTIs would be nearly sold out now. Dealers are not ordering in for their floor stock, but on customer's orders, hence they are not giving them away.

When I walked in and asked for the Pirelli, the exact words were "Pirelli DSG, 48K drive away, no options, and yes its negotiable; do you want to make an offer now?" - this was VW Camberwell. I asked does any come with a Sunroof, and he said there's none at all. (not sure if that was because there was never an option for a Sunroof or if they ran out)... Also asked about just standard Pirelli with Xenons... none neither...

The dealers trade stock between each other, that stock you see as available is what other dealers have that is not committed to a sale. VW Australia AFAIK don't generally carry any stock, the dealers do. With the GTI's EOL they may be carrying some stock but generally it's always the dealers.

I was told VW holds stock in every state and once a dealer order a car, it is pull out and has to clear customs and then the compliance plate is attached. Cars already in the dealers' yard if unsold may have an 08 compliance. How true this is, not sure.

You will never find a Pirelli with a sunroof, because there was no option for it. VW used to have a price list with all the options. It said excludes Pirelli.

After hearing all this, I'm very happy I bought my Pirelli when I did, otherwise I would be very disappointed.

This is good news for resale value for GTIs with a sunroof and leather I guess.

Anyway, back to the topic - yes its probably the best time to buy a GTI now, as VWA is absorbing the on road costs, while the dealer can still give you their 'normal' discount. Meaning an extra 2-3K off the best price someone could have gotten 3 months ago.

Cheers for all the replies, I might see if I can find some time off work to have a look at some dealerships and have a chat with them. This is the first time buying a brand new car from a dealership for me so I'm still a beginner at bargaining and all.

How much should I be looking to pay for a 08/09 VW GTI, Leather and DSG + Any colour except Tornado Red

before you even go to a dealer... ring up and ask for the fleet managers email address.. email them what you want, and say you want a corporate fleet price for the car. (Also say you have more than 25 cars in the fleet).

Once you've done that, you'll get some fleet quotes back... and that can be your basis... (give or take 1k)

Then depending on how tight; i mean how good you are in negotiating, that will be your final price If you read the emails before, - could be a wise idea to find something with a Sunroof and Leather, because there are gonna be heaps of GTIs floating around soon, and I know if i were to buy 2nd hand, i'll look for one with a factory Sunroof.

Which State are you in? I might be able to help out if you're in Melbourne

By the time you add leather, you are pretty close to the Pirelli price. Unless you really hate the Pirelli seats (part leather) and they are giving the GTI away, I'd buy the Pirelli. Happy shopping!

Pirelli in Melbourne - say $47k d/a dsg
GTI in Melbourne - Read in one of these forums that someone in Melb got a new GTI for $38/39k dsg with leather d/a. Not sure how true this is though as its grossly under rrp.

When I bought my GTI 4 weeks ago, there was a difference of approx. $3000 between a 5d GTI DSG+leather & 5d Pirelli DSG+sensor. I would've gladly paid the difference for 18" rims, bigger turbo & colour coded bumpers, but I just couldn't get over the seats & yellow stitching.

                          No regrets so far.

I'm from Brisbane, but cheers for the offer. I have always wanted a Pirelli but I didn't know there was only a slight price difference that and the optioned model I am after.

There's only two VW dealerships within a 50km radius of Brisbane CBD so it's a bit hard for me to find a Pirelli around this time I guess.

In regards to the 30-50% bonus tax deduction, what do you need to be eligible? my sister in law owns her own business and turns over under 2 million dollars so am I able to get her to buy the car through her business and receive this offer?

So she owns the car, calculate the savings in tax and GST and gives that to you? She keeps a log book for the car, claims all future expenses and depreciation. Man, that is going to be so complicated

Yes the seats and yellow stitching is not my cup of tea either, but for that small price difference I'm prepared to overlook it. I'm sure my motor trimmer mate can do something about the yellow stitching.....

Would you know what a stock GTI 5door manual would go for? I'm hoping less than $36k d/a
