[QUOTE=ibbero;326931]I have had my GTI for about 7 months now; it has done just over 10,000Kms. I have not been happy with the DSG since new. The problems with it, are:

*Acceleration jerky when pulling away from standstill
*When putting in reverse it takes a while to actually move

I have the same, thought it was driver error as i've just got the car,Almost dangerous at times with nearly a stall on takeoff before surging, pulling into traffic, not always but enough to make you uncertain and a little offputing!Your making me think i should get mine looked at too

both of you should have the DSG looked at.

My DSG equipped TDI is smooth as the proverbial.
no delays, silky smooth under both hard and light acceleration, no noises, and zero problems with reverse.

mine has nearly 120k km on it now, and its perfectly smooth.

This may sound crazy, but go to another dealer and ask to "test" drive a GTI with DSG. That way you can compare (even though you're right, a DSG is a DSG) and use it as a strong point in your argument.

I had the same thing happen, was loaned a Jetta TDI which in my words to them was a Mercedes in comparison. I was told that the R32/GTI/GT had different setups and were more 'aggressive' in their changes. Needless to say I have driven several other GT/GTIs and this was unfounded with them being smoother shifting than mine ever was. Call them again to make an appt and ask if a GTI can be made available for comparison (surely they'll have demos) and do the comparison that way.
After my 3rd visit and after 3 DSG ECU resets I have a new mechatronic unit on order.

I took the car (2008 GTI) to VW workshop to have the DSG looked at again. Without going into too much detail, it is jerky and makes clunking noises when changing down in manual mode etc. I asked to drive another DSG Golf and was given a TDI with DSG, this was so smooth compared to mine. When I spoke to the mechanic about it, I was told that I could not compare the TDI mated DSG, to the turbo GTI. Surely a DSG gearbox is a DSG gearbox and that my gearbox is normal for this vehicle and has been scantooled for fault codes

I have sent an email to VW Australia, telling them all about it.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Also, when do you lose the newbie tag?

I asked to drive another Golf with DSG, so that I could compare it with my piece of snot. They let me drive a TDI with DSG and that was as smooth as silk. When I told the service department how good it was, they said you can't compare a DSG gearbox that is mated to a diesel, it doesn't behave the same as a DSG/GTI. To me, the DSG should be the same in all vehicles

I have been looking at dealers in Perth, so that I can do just that.

The problem is, if the GTI that I test-drive is smoother, how do I make them aware that it is better and get them to rectify it, instead of trying to fob me off all the time

it's a well known problem with the DSG boxes.

there are many many threads on the same subject, and once the dealer has gone through all their required software changes
to eliminate that as a cause, the next step is replacement of the mechatronics module itself.

and, i would agree that the DSG should be the same in all vehicles that it's fitted to.
not the same as in the exact same box, but its operation should be the same.

VW requires it's dealers to try to fix the problem with a cheap software update.
(understandably so, as the module replacement is a $4000+ cost) but if that fails to work, they then have to replace the module.
if your dealer is remotely competent, they should be well aware of the issue.

Right since it was too difficult to follow my request with the other posts left there I have deleted those as well. To reiterate my post that I deleted. This thread is not a DSG Manual Gearbox vs Manual Manual Gearbox debate. Keep on topic.
                    Thankyou.

Mine's been booked in for late next month to fix a variety of rattles and knocks and also to take some dude who i dont know to come for a spin with me so i can try and demonstrate the issues ive been having with dsg. i will attempt to update on the situation as it happens.

I have high hopes that this will not be the case.

This is the kind of problem that would be hard to prove to VW if it's intermittant behaviour and not a clear fault. May as well try and get it sorted under warranty. Hard to believe VW will repair everybody's and people will be questioning if theirs is faulty it or not.

Mine doesn't have this problem for obvious reasons

Yeh, mine is intermittant but i have a pretty good way of inducing at least one of the issues it has.

I want to sell the piece of crap but its not possible to sell a car which randomly jolts through the gears. I'll be furious if i have to trade it in.

                            DSG Problem

VW Australia contacted me, offering to arrange for a drive in a GTI with DSG, so that I can compare it with mine, which I am going to take up. This was after I emailed them, telling them that I was unhappy with my gearbox.

My car is due to go in to the VW dealer in a couple of weeks time, so that they can listen to the clunk in the DSG, and to have the drivers door taken off again(about the sixth time) to try and stop a rattle.

Take them for a drive to the other dealer, then take them for a drive in the new GTI. Again it sound crazeh but i'd be willing to do it to get my point across..
