  • Not Happy with DSG

I have had my GTI for about 7 months now; it has done just over 10,000Kms. I have not been happy with the DSG since new. The problems with it, are:

*A loud clunk at about 25km/hr
*Clunking noises when changing down in manual
*Acceleration jerky when pulling away from standstill
*When putting in reverse it takes a while to actually move

The VW dealer updated the control module, but the problem is still there. The dealer is now attempting to get a DISS Ticket.

Has anyone had similar problems and had any results from a DISS Ticket?

What on earth is a DISS Ticket?

I assume they reset the parameters in the mechatronics unit? Is this what you mean by update the control module?

The next step if that fails to fix the problem is to replace the mechatronics unit, once this is done it should be find.

      DISS Ticket

Apparently a DISS Ticket is information from worldwide VW agents, that hopefully will give advice on fixing the problems.

Will replacing the mechatronics unit be an option under the warranty? Also, is it likely to fix it?

They already have the information. The TSB is clear that if erratic operation of the DSG can be confirmed that a reset of the storage values be performed, any software updates loaded and the owner is sent on their way to see how the car goes.

If the DSG still plays up then the mechatronics unit is replaced and the problem is resolved.

If it's faulty yes and unless there is a fault with the gearbox (very very unlikely) it will fix the problem. I just had mine replaced, it's around a $4000 job. http://www.my-gti.com/825/volkswagen...ic-replacement

The clunking sound is defs coming from the gearbox right? It's not the auto door locking feature you have activated?

And tbh, the reverse thing annoys me a little but that's really the only downside i have with the DSG. Apart from it sometimes does not want to change up from 4th!

Take it back in and mention that it's still erratic shifting, take the foreman for a drive and show him the problem. If your dsg has already been reset they will most likely organise to replace the mechatronics.

But it really depends on how it's shifting as mine was clear cut, there are other faults like faulty sensors etc that can cause other problems.

either way if the car is less than 3 yrs old this should be sorted under factory VW warranty.

I helped a guy that was stranded with his 3.2 EOS. It ended up blowing the CV + Driveshaft up. Wow.
Car only done 32000km's and was a little over 12 months old.

It is definitely not the auto door locking, the clunk is coming from the gearbox

mine has these issues also... but think the first one is just the gearbox and the way the clutches engage from takeoff, i can never seem to get a smooth takeoff unless flooring it. there is a thread already on this issue.
mine is much better since i got it chipped, as there is less lag from a takeoff also, but still has jerky takeoffs.
reverse in mine is such a pain, and speaking to a mechanic about it he tells me it is normal and the characteristics i have showed him are worse in the diesels. it lurches in reverse if i apply any acceleration at all, and yes it has a delay between lifting foot off brake and actually moving backwards. Again this is the clutch system, no torque converter so it is not actually trying to move against the brakes like in a normal auto.

Took the car into VW dealer to have the DSG looked at again. When I was there, I mentioned the mechatronics unit to the service manager and he had never heard of it.

bit of a concern!!! Do they have anyone there who knows a bit about the DSG? Maybe the foreman???? They have to have staff there that have done VW training so a few of them will be familiar with the gearbox.

DSG is OK says VW Agent

This is an update to my previous thread about noisey DSG.

I took the car (2008 GTI) to VW workshop to have the DSG looked at again. Without going into too much detail, it is jerky and makes clunking noises when changing down in manual mode etc. I asked to drive another DSG Golf and was given a TDI with DSG, this was so smooth compared to mine. When I spoke to the mechanic about it, I was told that I could not compare the TDI mated DSG, to the turbo GTI. Surely a DSG gearbox is a DSG gearbox and that my gearbox is normal for this vehicle and has been scantooled for fault codes

I have sent an email to VW Australia, telling them all about it.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Also, when do you lose the newbie tag?
