Jetta with Front Parking Sensors - Bonus!

For what it's worth my MY07 (Aug '06 build) Jetta has exactly the same selt belt on the front passenger side. All others, like yours have the plastic disc.

Bizarre!

I suspect it maybe something around the fact that most Jetta's go to the US (aka left hand drive market).

I'll have to re-read the hand book to see if there is anything in there.

I'll also be interested in the response you get.

OMG my Jetta has the same spool thingy on the front passenger seatbelt instead of the plastic disc... probably it's standard issue on Jettas??

In saying that though, pretty sure we get the UK spec when it comes to everything but the engine and a few options i.e. sensors, climate control etc.. (which are options over there)

Well it seems like all mk5 Jettas have this seatbelt webbing attached. I dare say the dealer will go that's normal but we'll see. I couldn't imagine why on earth it is there though instead of a plastic disc. I'm also interested now if any Golfs have this also...

Well went to the dealer yesterday...WHAT A SHAMOZLE!! Long post.

Dropped car off at 930am. Originally ready at 1pm. Drove back twice and left around 4pm!!!

First up, servicing department have never been asked before about the extra bit of seatbelt webbing on the front passenger side belt. Turns out, yes it is normal but they didn't know why so did a bit of checking. Actually turns out to be smart thinking / attention to detail: it is the only seat belt, that if not used, would BANG against the plastic trim near the B pillar. If there was a plastic disc it would go THUMP THUMP every so often where the seatbelt webbing is softer and makes no sound. Don't stress about it like I did.

After email photos of my current headlamp switch (1K0 941 431 REH) which is just for rear fogs they pre-ordered one for front fogs (1K0 941 431 A REH). In one minute they change the switch but front fogs don't light up on first pull. Said their auto elec will have to look at the wiring loom which I have to come back for! Damn. I said "it wouldn't be coding would it?" and they said "nup, wiring problem for sure". Hope their right. They think they might have originally wired the car as if there was no front fogs - they said sorry and understood why I wasn't flash about it.

On a couple of other matters, they've ordered two near door seals as I've been hearing air come into the car on the drivers and rear lefthand doors. They originally said they fixed it by tightening the doors - but 10mins out of the dealership I did a u-turn and said "umm, it's worse" so they drove it and confirmed air entry was still a problem.

Finally, dealership originally told me that when a trailer was fitted, the rear sensors would be disabled. I think a few members on here have clarified (factory fitted towbar = yes to that; dealer fitted = no). Well my dealership says should happen (car was factory built to spec after all). Of course it has never worked as they said so yesterday they "re-coded" part of it. Turns out afterwards they stuffed the whole sensors up including the radar display on the RCD310. Did another U'ey back to the dealer and 30mins later it's "fixed". Haven't tried it out yet but I am sceptical the sensors will be disabled with a trailer on-board especially as one of the techs said the towbar was fitted in Australia not at the factory. It's not difficult to push the parking sensor button but would be nice if it self-cancelled. We'll see.

I was pleasantly surprised. I actually spoke to someone today about it. They said they have a late-model Honda (don't know which one) and their front passenger belt buckle occasionally bangs against the trim and gives them the irits. Yes, hail to VW

Well, that's quite thoughtful!. My Camry passenger belt bangs the trim it drives my batty when I occasionally drive it. I wondered why the Jetta was quiet (aside from the diesel tune of couse!) compared to the Camry!

Sorry to hear about all the other little shennigans though.

I will add this "feature" to the list of handy tid bits. Kinda like how the leather seats have cloth on the inside bolster to stop squeaking when it touches the plastic centre console.

The Europeans are generally very good at simple design solutions. I've noticed this with household applianaces as well.
The Japanese would have designed a whole new seatbealt mechanism with dials and flashing lights.

Don't forget they would've made it extra small and probably a Hybrid..
