  • Jetta with Front Parking Sensors - Bonus!

Hi, my first post here but lurked for a while. Great site. Picked up my 2009 Jetta from the dealership yesterday. Very schmick.

Now I was a bit surprised it had both front & rear parking sensors - both radars show up on the RCD310. Sales bloke reckons factory threw the front ones in "for free" and they were a bit surprised too (VW up-specing the last of the MK5 Jetta production runs?). I'm thinking bonus Thought I had to upsize to the Passat for all that.

On a few other notes, DSG works like a charm (fingers crossed it stays that way and sure the latest software / hardware helps) and noticed the turbo lag isn't so bad in the CR compared to the PD I drove in December.

Now the euro switch seems to have been altered as it can only be pulled out once (activating both front and rear at same time).
Also it can be pulled out only with the full headlights on, so not on auto or parkers. It definitely cannot be pulled out on any of the other settings. This is a pest I reckon as xenons may reflect off fog and I'd like it if the fogs worked only with the parkers on. I'm pretty sure the demo I drove last year worked with parkers. Would it be "VAGCOMable" that when I pulled the foggies on the xenons turned off?

Congrats on the new car.. You're gonna love the Jetta

That switch doesn't sound too right... Every VW i've seen in my life has had the option of having only front fogs on, and at any setting (Auto, park and main). It could be a new thing but not even the Mk6 I got last week as a loan didn't have that...

Post some pics! It's required when you get a new car

MY euro switch only allows fogs when either the parkers or low beams are on. you cant turn them on with its in auto mode, and none of the other Golf GTI's I've been in allow it either. Bit strange to the OP about not being allowed when the parkers are on tho, and i dont think it'd be vag-com'able as its the switch its self that stops you... maybe another aftermarket switch?

      ps. you should be

It's most definitely a different switch than I thought would have been there. I thought it would have been one pull = front fogs or two pulls = front and rear. And can only be pulled when lowbeam is selected. Totally different switch which is a bit odd but nothing to get too excited about - can always change it I suppose!? There would be occasions when you may want the front fogs on but not the back (think Excel) so I don't know which bright spark at Vdub thought of that.

I'll post some pics by the next day or so - of car & switch.

When I drove it home yesterday it should have been a 1.5hr trip back home. Wife was happy to drive the ol' EA back home and wondered why it took me 3hrs in the Jetta. Ha ha.

Congratulations on the new Jetta, you really are going to love it.
I think you got the new colour,as the previous Red was more of a Burgandy.
I am waiting to see the photos.

the rear fog light should be independently switched. when I first used mine the people behind me flashed their lights, on checking the fog light is very bright. so now I rarely use it.

                      YOU GOT RED!!!!!

                      I am soooo P****d off!

I wanted red and the Spice Red wasn't available any more and now 2 months later there's another red!

I hate VW's total lack of imagination with colours.

It was the same when I bought my mk4 golf - grey, black, white, silver and navy!

                      Boring, boring, boring!

I might never get over this. it'e nough to make me go trade in for Tiguan in BRIGHT BLUE!

Not enough time in the day to get pics done today. Got a day off tomorrow so will do it then. The Jetta is amazing, especially compared to my 20 year old Ford. The attention to detail and technology is always a pleasent surprise. Perhaps a bad example but for instance I'm not very into the idea of auto wipers (reckon it's a little gimicky) but had them on today and I couldn't fault them. Fantastic. Now clocked up 650 clicks in 3 days and loving it.

Manual says fogs should have two pulls and be able to work on the parkers. Might ask the dealer down the track what's the G-O.

Glad to hear others interest in red, because I've hardly seen any. I was keen to get a colour, rather than a shade so-to-speak. So it was going to be salsa red or (?biscay?) blue. The salsa is a nice deep red. It's not metallic at all (I don't mind "normal" paint). Demo I drove in December was the metallic spice - as you said bergundy - and that was quite nice. I would be happy with either red. Pics tommorow. Promise

                          Karen,dont worry.
I still think that the Graphite Blus suits the Jetta best.
I got Reflex Silver as I am a huge fan of Silver VWs,think it is a classic colour, which is easy to keep clean, always looks smart, and does not show the little scratches...
My family begged me to get the Graphite, but I said NO WAYS...

The blue does need more frequent cleaning to look its best.
I hardly ever washed my silver.

I could see how silver would be one of the better colours for not showing half the crud that gets on your car just by driving it around.

Here are the first pics, one of the front sensors and one of the light switch.

Who here thinks I got duped with the wrong light switch, as in one that would normally be installed on a car with no front fogs?
