It's the wrong switch. Takes 30 seconds to swap for the correct one but may require some coding changes (maybe not as the front fogs may always operate when the rear fogs are on).

Thanks for your advice Mav that it's the wrong one.

Makes sense because looked up on VicRoads' website and it states that rear fog lamps shall be switched separately to front fog lamps. Sent an email to the sales consultant and I'll call them on Monday. Hopefully they'll agree there is a problem and change the switch over at the complimentary 3K service).

Here's a few pics of the rest of the car. I reckon the sun lightens it up a bit. Those that wanted red...looks like I've got a bounty on my head now!

The Jetta looks very sporty in Red.
I saw a lot of them in America last year in this colour, but most of them were the GLI model.
What a step up from an old Falcon, you must be loving it.

Very nice car! Yeah that's the switch I have on my Jetta (no front fogs)!

Talk to the dealer - they have to change it. VW's obviously made a mistake with the car and make sure they're the ones who fix it.. Don't attempt anything considering the car's brand new And don't fall for the free sensors compensating this error, either!

I happen to be in Shepparton next week so rang the service department at the dealer as there tis a few things to get looked at.

Get this...the plastic disc on the lower section of the seatbelt (to stop the buckle falling to the floor and hard to reach), well they must have run out of them the day they made my Jetta. The front passenger seatbelt doesn't have it and instead they've got a few inches of offcut seatbelt, folded it a couple of times (with a daggy bit of the end for good measure) and sewn it onto the seatbelt. Bizarre Looks dreadful but not something I noticed on pickup.

Anyway, about this headlight switch (? wrong one). Service bloke said even if it's the wrong switch they won't be able to replace it on the day as they have to write up a special ticket and get it approved for warranty work, then they order the part in and replace it. Does this sound right? The dealership is a 120km drive (one way) so it's a bit of a pest. Would emailing a photo be of any benefit so they could confirm it is the wrong switch before I get there? Got no idea if servicing even does email.

I'll take a happy snap of it this evening all being well.

I got worried at first as I thought they'd just bunched up a bit of the original seatbelt and sewn it into a lump but that's not the case. It's an extra bit of seatbelt that they've attached. It's only on the one seatbelt so it probably shouldn't be there. Dealership was surprised over the phone, and being on the front passenger seat it was only a matter of time before it got noticed.

I am not stoked about the dealer delivery (boot light was also knackered as the resister fell out of the connector - fixed temporarily with pliars). Mistakes or oversights happen I suppose.

Hmmm... sounds like lacking in QA (quality assurance) checks before your car leaving the factory

Wrong switch, improvising...must have been a wild day or two at the factory!

You're right, fault of the factory rather than the dealer. Just thought they might have noticed that's all.

Hope I didn't get carried away with too many angles. I'd be interested to know people's thoughts (preferably saying...yep, that's a bit dodgy )

And yeah, if anyones wondering that bit of extra seatbelt is on the "outer" side meaning it doesn't lie against you when you wear it...but the stitching is is fairly hardcore and that part of it digs into you when wearing it

Ok I just had to go and check my Jetta and mine is exactly the same as yours! I have never sat in that seat so I never noticed.

Its the front passenger too and all the rest have the little plastic stopper instead.

Let me know what the dealer says.

heres the pic that Jase took for those who are too lazy to click on the attachments:

Argh! How odd!? It's getting looked at on Thursday and I'll certainly post a reply once I hear the official verdict.

Strange though why no other seatbelts have it.. Why would that be?

Haha just had to go check mine and yeah, it's the same. Finish is pretty good though
