      You may be right (you would be going pretty quickly in 5th at 5k...).

      IMO the cruise control must override the S mode... if you press the accelerator in cruise in S at 90, the gears drop back to 3 and you get that more aggressive response, and if you lift off the accelerator the cruise control must take over again because the gears shift back down to 5 and 6 again.

      Quite a good combination for highway driving (economical cruising most of the time, with instant aggressive acceleration when you need to overtake, etc).

      Strangely, when I turned off the cruise and shifted to D, the throttle response seemed less 'instant' than it had been before I did this test... I wonder if it has 're-learned' itself to a more sedate setting?
