Yes you can but...

if the original 3 year Factory warranty hasn't run out yet, you can get the 3 year extended warranty with no restrictions except kms up to 160K kms - warranty is identical to the original warranty otherwise - no cap on repairs and replacements if it is a warranty issue.

If the original 3 year factory warranty has already lapsed, you can get a 3 year extended used car warranty with a $2000 cap on each repair/replacement.

Call up Jaz of Southern Classic Cars and/or Jamil of VW Denlo Parramatta. They can give you a price on the VW extended warranty (remember that your car must be under the original factory warranty to qualify). Make sure you ask specifically for the Original VW extended warranty and mention that you do not want dealer warranty (which is useless).

I'd call up both Jaz and Jamil. Buy from the person who gives you the lowest quote. Remember to mention you are from the forum.

VW Osborne Park (WA) tried to sell an extended warranty to me for our .:R for $2200 (and she even tried the "with the recent hail storm, Allianz will be putting their premiums up, so I recommend you get the warranty extended now")

AFAIK it's a VW extended warranty as that's what was specifically asked for. I wouldn't expect Phillip to try and sell my sister a dealer warranty that locks her (or any future owners of her car) into a dealer warranty that basically renders it worthless if she (or the car) moves interstate - he comes across as better than your average salesman. When I know for sure, I'll post back.
