Oh. And there is talk (unconfirmed) on price rises for the extended warranties of up to 30% this year (soonish, not sure which models or if it is all)
If anyone can confirm this there would be a good number of forum members here who would be interested in knowing this.
I am currently putting off the purchase of extended warranty until the car is almost at the end of factory warranty because buying it now seems like wasted money were it to be written off or stolen before the end of the factory warranty.
Car is currently only 14 months old but I might change my mind if the price was certain to rise by 30%.

I still have just under 18 months remaining but a 30% increase would persuade me to buy it earlier.
I just called austral and spoke to a lovely lady in sales,
"So its a GTI? Is that the petrol or diesel engine?"
Anyway she said "its a set price, we cant move on it.." I had a quick dig and tried for a haggle, but didnt want to mention the price here. If they came down to at least the 1750 mark I'd get it from them as its local and I have no major grips... but I think now I'll put that $800 towards my holiday later this year!

From my reading of the policy document you can cancel at any time, but if you do Allianz "may deduct a proportion of the premium for time on risk, reasonable administration costs ....and any govt taxes or duties we cannot recover".
The policy can also be transferred to a new owner (for a $50.00 fee).
mine is due in May this year so thinking about it soon, what justifies the 30% price rise?
The RRP of extended warranty for VW Transporters went from $2,400 in Nov last year to $3,600 in Dec, that is a 50% increase !!!
Of course it happened just before I bought it for mine Thank goodness the "street price" is significantly less than the RRP. I'm not sure if the increase was part of an overall price rise or because Allianz (the underwriter) had a mistake in the computer quoting system ( I suspect the latter). The Multivan (a flash, people-mover version of the Transporter) is currently still RRP $2,400, but I don't know how long that price will remain.
If I was confident I would be keeping my car past the 3 yr mark then it is definitely worth considering the pros and cons of buying extended warranty early.
Did you know you can buy VW extended warranty for non-VWs too ? My Octy is 18 months old, and I recently bought VW extended warranty for it (from Eric at Ferntre Gully). It was a lot cheaper than buying Skoda extended warranty (no, I can't explain how that works either, but I was happy to save $400).
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).
