Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My average since I got my car chipped is 11.7L/100. It was in the 12's before I did 1000km of highway over easter.

And yes, I <3 driving my car through the mountains... even it the average sits over 20

        I constantly average 10-10.2/L

most of it is from sitting in ****ty BNE morning traffic. All the stop starts kill it.

even when i drove to the hunter valley and back though best i managed for the whole 1500km was 7.6L

doing the work return everyday leaves me with mid 12's usually, kinda annoying for a 10km drive. a decent run on the hightway will sit it in the 8's and rarely into the 7's... but the average for the last 4000km is still pretty high. Dont know how those cip makers can say your economy improves your just more likely to want to give it a squirt

Last cruise + return trip to airport from eastern suburbs I got 6.7l/100 in the GTI, verified with tank top-up.

Usual suburban driving sees 9.0-10.0, although with cold weather upon us that will get worse on the short trips.

I'm just curious to see what others get. I know what I get and i've always thought it was a little high, even for city driving.

                    Long term average

I kept an accurate record of all fuel consumption in my Mk 5 103 TDI Manual. Over 84,000km it averaged 6.18L/100km. I did 1000km per week, around 300km morning suburban grind, 700km Hume Freeway. Best was 1080km from 53.8 litres (4.98L/100km) with 3 on board on a trip from Melbourne to Bathurst. New Golf 6 (same spec) seems slightly better, but too early to tell accurately.
