some people go for an oil change every 7500kms, but is not required for warranty reasons etc.

ive booked in my first 15000kms service next month for $275 which isnt too bad a price!
Hi Big Yellow, where are you taking it for that- seems very reasonable if reputable?

          first service

Took my Gti Pirelli for service (7000km).
Asked them to rotate tyres change oil and filter.
Was told that VW recommends not changing factory oil on GTI's for the first
15000km , as this oil helps with the run in and reduces oil consumption in the future.
It was a recent document from the factory.
I did not want to have any issues down the line, if high oil consumption was going to be a problem.
Prior to purchasing this car in July, I was driving a GTI 2006 model and this one was using a considerable amount of oil.
So far the Pirelli has not consumed any oil (7000km).
          Fingers crossed.

I would be very interested in knowing whether such a document actually exists or not (and if it does who issued it). See post # 8 onwards in this thread :

Just an off-topic comment if I may.

Please, please PLEEEEEEEASE people, don't say your car doesn't consume oil. If it didn't there would be not much left of your pistons or cylinders or the rest of the engine for that matter. Show me a car that doesn't use oil and I'll see a seized engine!

Your engine MUST use a quantity of oil for it to function. That quantity may be a lot or negligible and it will vary depending on driving circumstances. But it WILL use oil.

              There, I said it.

Lots of luck with that particular quixotic campaign

If people don't notice an significant decrease in the oil level then 99.99% will continue to say "my engine doesn't use (any) oil", whether it is strictly accurate to say it or not, and whether you (or anyone else) likes it or not. Besides, we all know what they mean anyway.

Although for some the amount of oil consumed by their engine is offset by the accumulation of condensates in the oil from lots of short trips where the engine doesn't get up to proper operating temperature for long enough to burn the condensates off.

Heard another dealer service horrer story today- mates r36 had a bi-xenon bulb issue and the front quarter panel was gouged (same side as faulty light) by poor screwdriving!! They deny responsibility and he has demanded they review their job sheet which includes a hire car like walk over of car...

So that is ongoing- and he is furious.

Having said that- can anyone suggest a good (and well priced like the Newcastle dealer above!!) dealer in sydney to service my gt sport tsi??

                    Cheers!

take a drive up the F3 its only about a hour and half from sydney drive but ring kloster first to get the quote as DSG might cost more than manual

                        Thanks for that sreay.

Now that I have an approx amount I will call a couple of local guys and if not make a trip up.

I've been servicing my mk4 an indpendant vag mechanic and the guys there told me 90% of mechanics employed at the dealers are apprentice mechs and that when they actually get some experience they are shifted out.

He reckons if you want your car serviced properly- get it done at a specialist non-dealer mechanic...

They are a little biased though!!!

MariusGT, where abouts you located in Sydney?

Everyone here has heard of some form of service horror stories, whether that is with a VW dealer or independent. You can only hope it doesn't happen to you really...

My 2 dubs have been serviced by CCC (Chatswood Classic Cars) since they've hit the road and have had no issues with their service centres (i have had a few minor incidents with their sales but that's beside the point).

                            Hey tunzy,

                            I'm in the inner west.

Had been servicing my mk4 (as mentioned above) at an Independant in st peters. The last one they charged me for wiper fluid at $20 per litre x 2...

Are you kidding me?? $40 for some detergent??

So they lost the business of my mk4 and new mk5.

Looking to give a dealer a go again!! Will give CCC a call.

Klosters are Ok if you don't mind waiting all day for a service.
                              Not great at fault diagnosis.
On the plus side they did top up the oil level on my last GTI in between servicing and that worked out to about every 4 times between services.
