Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First Service?

Just wondering on a brand new Golf R32, when should the first service be? and generally service intervals after that?

  • #2
every 12 months or 15000kms (which ever comes first) as stated in the manual.

some people go for an oil change every 7500kms, but is not required for warranty reasons etc.

ive booked in my first 15000kms service next month for $275 which isnt too bad a price!

My GTI has had oil/filtered changed at 7500 by its previous owner, and I intend to continue that trend considering how I drive it. Also as its the first chage after 'bedding in' you'd want to do it sooner rather than later.

You would have thought that they'd all be around the same price, but $275 seems pretty cheap.

Typical highway robbery from vw all the do with the first service is change

oil and filter and top up the fluids!!

I was quoted over $400 for my first service ahh no thanks

I took my GTI to a very reputable mechanic and only charged me $250

As well as saved me $3000 on a coilover suspension in which you can't

even get someone to fix if they are faulty and these are the most

                      popular brand.

I am not sure if this is just my experience. But in the past when it comes to selling the car, buyers do actually prefer cars that have been serviced at a VW service centre as opposed to the local mechanic. I know when I was selling my last car, all servicing was done at VW South Yarra, and that was a large factor for the buyer purchasing my car.

just dont take it to a dealership....they rip you off!

I always have taken mine to Derek @ European Autotech and my first service cost about $198! (half of the $400 from CCC!!!) And yes Ive had the car 4 years and yes I have made warranty claims and no they dont care where you take your car for a service as long as it IS serviced!

I had it done today. I bought my own oil (their charge was $70). They charged extra to clean the injectors too.

They updated the software so that's useful.

1st service about $260 for me by memory. They offered free car wash (politely declined) and transport to destination. Also gave me the remaining new oil left over as well.
