    • Hi Turbo,

I've been in exactly the same predicament as you - Trying to fit an RCD510 to a 55 plate MkV GT Tdi.

It's been to the VW dealer today to be fitted - They didn't have a problem with doing the work:

They have fitted/coded the 'S' version of the CAN Gateway (bought from the guy in the Czech rep after finding your link - Many thanks I might add!) (About £70)
They have also fitted coded the stereo (£380 off Ebay).

I'm not going to be using it much over the weekend, so I'll see how I get on with it, but I might get my neighbour to do that voltage test thing you mentioned just in case.

The only downside was that all of the work today (including supplying the aerial adaptor lead) cost me £140, bringing the total cost of the installation close to £600!

So far so good though, and it looks stunning! I'll keep you posted.

And lastly, a big thanks to you - Without your persistance in finding a solution, I'd still be stuck with my crusty old non-mp3 playing RCD300!!

After the install with the dealer did the mode button on the steering wheel (Scrolling from AM to FM to CD player) still work or was it left inactive.

          No problems at all.
Great news that you were able to get the gateway installed and coded.

I'm still to have mine installed.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it done.
But so far the relay is working ok.

My am,fm,cd button is currently inactive too.
Is that solved after the gateway upgrade ?

          Jason.

          • Yep, everything is working as it should. CD, radio buttons, everything.
Currently got an 8gb SDHC card running in it too - gonna look to upgrade this to a 32gb one when they come down in price.

Also, my neighbour is an electrician and I just got him to test the draw on the battery whilst everything is off, as this was the only remaining uncertainty that I had.

I can confirm that the S version of the gateway DOES fix the battery drain problem. It was registering just 0.02-3a, then I opened the door to make sure it went up when the interior light came on and it did - JOB DONE!

Great piece of kit, good luck with getting yours fitted Jason,

Not sure, as my golf doesn't have the steering wheel controls or the highline computer in the dash. Everything else works, so I'd assume so. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Great news. i hope to have mine installed and coded within a few weeks.
budget is a factor at the moment, (it's non existant )

                • i can FINALLY report success !!!!!!!

the gateway was installed and coded this morning, and there is no drain on the battery when the key is turned off.
i have removed the relay setup, and the radio now works as the factory intended.

the gateway correctly reports the existence of the RCD510, and the problem is solved.

so i can confirm that a gateway upgrade to the latest one (in this case 1K0 907 530 S) does fix the drain problem.

                  the old gateway was 1K0 907 530 E.

                  happy days.....

A big thanks to Derek over at European Autotech for the install job.

hope you all find this info useful.

                  Jason.

                    Well done!
With all this info the gates are now open on this radio and that Skoda supplier .
It still amazes me this simple solution could NOT be available from Volkswagen Australia! (Wonder who bites at that comment)
                    Thanks for your info

                    • no problems, glad im able to help.

i think the info is available at VW, they just don't want anything to do with the modifiying scene.
they have no responsibility for anything that goes wrong then.

anyway, it's all solved now, for anyone that wants to go down the same path in the future.

I forgot to ask if the button on the steering wheel that enables you to change from AM to FM to CD works after the latest gateway is installed.

troll. But I agree, get an RNS510, less headache, or buy the RCD510 and the updated CANBUS if you have an MY05/06 Golf.
