I hate to say it but that thing has had a trade plate slapped on it and taken for a few test drives. I have worked for a dealership and this was common practice with new vehicles. Just one of the reasons I no longer work in the industry. I would be trying to squeeze everything out of them possible and start with the salesperson then if you have no luck ask to speak to the sales manager then elevate to the DP, VW etc.

Have what you require clearly in mind and don't budge.

Best of luck and if you purchase a VW again go to that dealership first, screw them down for a rock bottom price then get up at the last minute and take that price to another dealership get a better one and sign on the dotted line. You know what they say.... once bitten, twice shy

    Take care.

    Anthony.

300 Ks is a huge number of ks. It's how many Ks most of us drive in a week. I've had my new GTI for 2 months now, and it's only done 1100ks!

It's probably a little late (once paid for, you lose all your leverage or bargaining power). It's a total crock..

I warned my local dealer not to try anything shifty like this when I ordered the pirelli. I told them I'd be checking out not only the odometer, but the beading on the tyres.

Low and behold - 16kms when it was delivered to me. 300 is completely unacceptable for a new car. I would say, at the very least, it's been used an an unregistered 'demo' for potential purchasers.

Others might not care, but I would. It's the principle that counts, and the knowledge your car hasn't been sat in and driven by god knows how many people.

I'd be taking this up with VW, they might be able to offer some form of restitution.
Kryten2001 is right - its the principal of the matter! 300Km is just unacceptable. I know also for a fact that I have test driven vehicles that are unregistered with trade plates on and the dealer let me 'borrow' that vehicle overnight.

If its also fact that the dealership can reset the MFA if its less than 100Km, they've just slipped this time and forgot to reset after its clocked over 100Km, in which case, they can't reset the odometer and had to let it run its course.

Nevertheless, I am a cynic and I'll be the first to admit it. Definitely complain to the sales manager then to DP then VW. Don't let up until you get something out of the dealership. One last resort is the Ombudsman. If all else fails, you might want to try him.

      Good luck

I wouldnt be happy with 300 on the clock. Not sure what you can do about it now that youve accepted the car from the dealer.
Unacceptable, but at the end of the day it really wont matter. Still not on though and worth asking them questions.

It's possible that this was done and it actually has 400km on it.

Use that in your defense. Claim the whole "Who knows how many actual kilometres the car has". It could prove to be costly but get your solicitor involved. Get him/her to read over your purchase contract and to talk to the dealer.

Just to let them know you're serious.

Whilst I wouldn't be all that pleased with 300 km's on a brand new car, even if i picked up a car which had zero k's, 1 week later it would be around 300 anyway.

All I'm saying is don't stress over it to much, if the car is otherwise perfect then don't worry. Imagine if they offered you a lower k car as a replacement and it turned out to be a lemon.

Better the devil you know, maybe push for a free set of mats or umbrella to make your point.

yeah I agree, not worth the hassle. If it was something that was going to concern u, u should have checked before you drove it away. You didn't. Ces't la vie, just learn from it. As long as the car's OK.

Not having a go mate, but would you be peeved if you'd bought a new car and later found out it was a demo?

Many demos are sold with this number of Ks on them. I know I've bought a few. At least they were being up front about it.

These guys hid it, so not only is it ripping the purchaser off (in my opinion), it's also sly and deceptive - again, in my opinion.

I have a sneaking suspicion that legally 500Km is the threshold for a "new" car. Not sure, will need to do some research.

Not sure I'd class 300 km as a demo, 3000 is more where I'd expect a demo to be around.

I'm also not sure that the dealer "hid it" as you say, the buyer didn't notice the km's when he picked it up. Sure the dealer didn't bring it to the buyers attention but that's not the same as hiding it.

I'm not trying to defend the dealer, it's just not something I would get too worked up about if the car was otherwise good.

Even though 300 k's is a lot higher than it really should be it shouldn't really have a detrimental effect on the car as a whole and I really don't think it's worth the additional stress and worry you're going to give yourself trying to argue about it. Face the facts, you didn't tell them about it when you took delivery of the vehicle and even if it's written into your contract, so what, you accepted the vehicle at the time without checking the clock and now it will be your word against theirs as to how many k's were actually on the clock when you took delivery. IMHO as others have said, if the car is otherwise "spot on" then chalk it up as experience and learn from it. To suggest dragging a solicitor into this is crazy as you'll only end up further out of pocket and turn the whole deal sour in the process. By all means talk to the dealer and let them know of your disappointment and even try to push for a free 15,000 k service or something for your troubles but don't waste your time seeking retribution over an issue, you unfortunately, can not prove existed.

Russ and others are right. Better to try to forget about it rather than let this small issue spoil your attitude towards your new car. Get out there and drive it and enjoy

My car had 4000 k's on it.

I hope they drove it like they stole it so that the engine was bedded in nicely with piston rings meshed with the bores before the cross hatching on bores wore out.

No wonder my car is such a beast for a 1.4

I received a vehicle inspection slip when I picked up my car, it said it had 17km on the odo when it was inspected but it read 40-50km when I picked it up.

I asked about the discrepency and they said it was due to them doing testing. I didn't really buy that excuse since you don't test for 30km!!

But after you get over the excitment that you have a new car, these things don't matter anymore
