New R32 Owner, good purchase?

I reckon, its safe to have the bank cheque in your hand the day the car is ready for you to pick up. Go to RTA WITH the dealer and there and then, when the car can safely gets transferred into your name, then hand him over the bank cheque.

To be additionally safe, draft a document for the dealer to sign detailing date of transfer of ownership and that the dealer is fully responsible if the vehicle has any other financially interested parties.

Yaeh i made the monumental mistake of doing the deposit and overall transaction via EFTPOS, in two large 8+ grand sums. Next vehicle purchase ill make sure to only pay the minimum deposit fee since they arent commited to refunding you in any way.

Similar to what you proposed i devised a statement to declare that upon settling the payment payout contract figure, i would be guaranteed clear title, and that their was no finance or emcumbrances upon initial purchase. Guy said he was happy to sign off on it, and provided a VIC's check as evident proof. REV's check was down according to them.

Mate, I hear you. I totally agree that the R32 is a Gran Tourer since the fact that it is heavier than the GTI, it tends to react slower to undulations on the road surface, smoothing out the ride. On the other hand, the suspension setting has it that it reacts quickly to abrupt changes of direction. Sure, the GTI might be quicker and lighter than the R32 - especially when tweaked, but give it some 'less than ideal' road conditions and its inherent front wheel drive weakness will shine through - traction and understeer.

Aside from the 'standards' that you get in the R32 like leather and bi-xenon as well as 4wd, one thing you cannot afford to gloss over is the sound. That barking, howling sound can never be replicated by a 4 cylinder turbo motor. I think it is worth every penny of that new price difference of $15K.

Don't worry mate, when I get my R32, I shall be joining you on a prolonged budget trimming program. I am sure that is worth every bit of pain and suffering in other departments..... As quoted by another forum member Gunter: "When you are on your death bed, reflecting on your life, you will remember only the joy of owning the R32 - you won't give a damn whether you paid $40k or $50k. But you WILL regret not ever owning one".

The R32 is certainly a much heavier chassis, and the steering is on the meaty side but i think it suits the car and its overall handling perfectly. The grip on this car is phenomenal, helped no doubt by the AWD married to Continental tyres, =)

Too be honest coming from an MX-5 renown for their handling characteristics i couldnt conceive of a hatchback being a fun drive, and this car REALLY brought out the emotions in me. Not helping the fact that i am collecting the car over the Easter break where its double demirits. That accelerator pedal is too tempting.

I mean the positives over the GTI are numerous, AWD, V6 engine, Exhaust Note, Bi-Xenon, Electric Lumbar support (not sure standard), Power, and styling, (colour coding and rear twin pipes). I had quite the spirited drive today and was amazed to see the fuel guage not dramatically changing.

People complain that it could do with more power, but i think for navigating daily traffic and the odd spirited drives its a more then capable beast.

If your game enough to approach private sellers i do recall one seller in particular had an R32 in blue 3dr (no sunroof unfortunately), with 18000km's
for early $40's mark

You are correct about that as i recall somewhere in the contract i completed i was required to declare (and the dealer had did a rev's check), that the vehicle i traded in was not under financing of any sorts. With this in mind and i brought my uncle in as insurance to go over the finalising of sale, i went ahead and purchased the vehicle, which delivery i accepted today.

I had also noticed within the log book stuff that the previous owners contact details were there and decided to give him a call which he had ensured me the vehicle was not encumbered upon release to the dealers and that the REGO mismatch was apparently due to him repossessing the previous personalised plates and RTA taking some time to update their system (easter break)......so hopefully ill now if i obtain clear of title when i do the RTA transfer this following tuesday.

Getting abit late today but ill have some pic's uploaded of the vehicle shortly. it really is a stunner and im sooo glad i opted for an R32. To be honest the vehicle is so refined and a balanced packaged that if i had the money i wouldnt have any qualms with buying it brand new and optioned to the max.

The RTA aren't exactly what you'd call fast workers at the best of times, let alone with a long weekend on the agenda. I sometimes refer to the RTA as the Relaxed Transport Authority because their never in a hurry to do anything, except get out the doors at closing time.
