Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Don't just restrict yourself to the RE001. There are plenty of other good tyres out there.

Did you get a price on Pirellis from Jax?

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, Dunlop SportMaxx & ContiSport3 might also be worth pricing.

For something cheaper, a mate with a Focus XR5 swears by Marangoni Mythos (from Jax as well IIRC) as well (but he's a tight-arse and likes being different).

That Goodyear offer might be worth chasing but from my (long ago) experience with Goodyear as an employee the specials were never quite as special as Goodyear made out.

Jesus, I've had these before and they were just awesome... if I was ready I'd buy em! Edit: Sorry they are 17"... still seems a great price though.

I wouldn't touch the seller or the tyres with a barge pole. Not only is the "rated number 1" misleading (especially if you look at some of the reviews on golfmkv) but they have been selling tyres that are both old and imported cheaply from other markets including quite a few different brands of tyres that are Chinese made. I wouldn't be surprised even if the Chinese were knocking out branded tyres.

A few people on golfmkv checked into some of the branded tyres they were selling and found that some were a cold weather version of one sold in Australia (completely different performance) and another set of tyres were over 2 1/2 years old (after around 6 months tyres take around an extra 14 percent longer to stop).

It could be that it is a bargain but I'd be checking them out in person first going on others experience with them, especially date and place of manufacture as I think the German made ones were good, the Chinese made ones rubbish and the Australian made ones so so (from memory).

well i had the new tyres fitted yesterday.
ended up with the adrenalins. got the alignment checked also and they found that the front had toe out. so they have fixed that.
too early to give an opinion on the tyres but the car is dead quiet on the road now.
