As a guide, I was quoted $369 for RE050A's and $250 for RE001 just before Christmas. I bought the RE001 and am happy with them. Bear in mind these are 225/45/R17 not 18"

I got 45,000 KM out of the RE050As.

    Cheers

Thanks for that George, I'm about to be in the market, and these look like a great choice. $1k was my planned spend too.

Glad to be of service Greg.

Got those prices from the local Bridgestone Tyre Service, FYI, Jax quoted RE050A $434 and RE001 $346.

have heard good things about the Adrenalines so will get some quotes on them also.
That seems a bit OTT. Get a price from a Bridgestone Select dealer.

Friends in country Victoria are being quoted $380-$450 for RE050A 215/45r18 and $210-$240 for 225/45r18 RE001.

          Also:
          215/45 R18 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso ~$300 each
          225/40 R18 RE001 Adrenalins $355

Not sure why the RE050A cost so much compared to RE001.

Could it be the fact the RE050A are OEM, therefore Bridgestone chooses to sell it at a higher price because people (with more money than sense) want to replace their tyres with the same tyre and not necessary the best tyre for the money.

the general consensus is that RE001s perform the same, if not better than RE050a, at a much lower cost.

Save the money you were going to pay for the RE050A, get the RE001 and spend the savings on a PROPER 4 wheel alignment.

I can't agree with that. The other forum I use has interminable discussions about RE050A versus tyre "X" (particularly RE001). The consensus over there (from some very rapid peddlers) is that the RE050A is the superior tyre in several aspects but for the extra dollars the returns in performance don't match eg: 10% better performance for 80% more money.

Some of the guys are quite happy to pay the extra dollars every 25,000km and consider it money well spent.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assym's are around $500 each but at the moment you get 4 for the price of 3.

That's $1500 for a better fitted (offer ends in the next week or two) as opposed to $1440 for the RE001's. If anyone wants the EVO magazine review from the UK where they used a GTI and compared quite a few tyres pm me your email address.

In every day driving I can't say I've noticed a difference between the two, perhaps when I next get to some serious twisties I'll discover the difference.

I know we are talking 18s here not 17s but $110 more than I paid for RE001 a few months ago seems a fair difference. Have you shopped different Bridgestone centres? Their pricing does vary significantly as I discovered.

+1 You need to shop around.

Keep in mind the 215/45x17 are AUS made & a common size so economies of scale kick in.

Mine were 225/45/17 but I think you are right, I think it's a common Ford/Holden size.

Don't let them use the "oil prices" line on you though, I had that one last time, the amount of oil it takes to make a tyre etc, and with DROPPING world oil prices.... and tyre sales one would think in these leaner times... I'd take my time finding a good deal.
