Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

C,mon fellas, if you need to argue, please do it on one of the argumentive forums.
If the seats are the main worry in your life, you need to check out different brands maybe???
    Andrew
I thought freedom of speech was revered in this country.

If you don't like the discussion, Mr Andrew, you do not have to look at it. But don't censor others from doing so and participating in an open discussion.

And, no, it is not like an argument in the pub - no one in the pub would stop it continuing or prevent the protagonists from expressing their views just because one of them is wiping the floor with the other's intellect.

It seems that others, like me, have appreciated the clinical manner in which the OP has demolished the spurious and bullying arguments and outright misrepresentations and contradictions of the Maverick guy.

What Mr Andrew has done in deleting interesting, informative and educative posts that reveal the truth (and the lies of another) reminds me of what happened before the Wall came down, and still does happen in many dictatorships, like China. I am appalled.

It also disregards the effort the OP has put in to setting out the facts for all to see, at least until the censor's cold, malevolent hand hit the delete key. Single key editing indeed.

In terms of the recommendation to look at other brands, Mr Andrew obviously did not read the posts. The OP made clear that just because the GTI was short on one feature (tilt) did not mean the GTI was not the best package over all.

The OP showed how the Maverick guy was clutching at straws and had well and truly lost all credibility when he claimed to have been quoted "out of context" when the OP had quoted the entire paragraph around the single sentence he was referring to.

I also think it is impertinent to tell members of this forum who have bought GTIs or whatever to look at other brands. They have made an informed choice, and clearly they are commenting on a single aspect of the vehicle they would like to see improved. This does not mean they are going to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Cannot people suggest an improvement without being told to look at another brand? I did not realise this forum was all about idolatry rather than objective assessment of the pros and cons etc.

But the bottom line, Mr Andrew, is that neither You nor anyone else, should be suppressing free speech in this country. The OP is right: we all need to be vigilant against encroachments on our freedoms.

Censors/moderators like you, Mr Andrew, justify all the concerns people of reason currently have about Government's proposed intervention in the Internet. Only you are doing the Government's bidding for it but in a far more repressive manner.

This is a sad day for free speech in this country and this forum in particular. I did not think I would see the day. But there you have it.

It will live in infamy until someone of decency and fair-mindedness corrects it by reinstating those posts, Maverick's included.

And while ever there are sensors on this forum, I for one will be keeping copies of all of my posts, and I would encourage others to do likewise, before the censor strikes again.

(And please do not come the "it was getting abusive" or some such excuse for suppressing free speech. The OP has every right to defend himself and correct the misrepresentations pedalled by the Maverick guy and put him firmly in this place. And any reasons for deleting posts that are not life threatening or manifestly false & defamatory are simply the thin end of the wedge.)

      Klaus.
