Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    New 118TSi Jetta

Just paid for my Jetta (Silver) 118TSi with Front fog lights (Which I did not really want!, but they were on the car in the yard.

It is a brand new - unregistered car. And I paid $34,500 driveaway. I think that this is a reasonable price and am looking forward to the fuel efficiency test to see iof the numbers in the book are accurate??

I found my car started off doing high 7's but now that I have 20k plus under my belt the car regularly does low 6's and if I daydream I get into the 5's by the time I pull up on my regular drive.

My one HUGE tip is the car seems very sensitive to resetting the trip meter. The gearbox goes to porridge when you reset trip meter as I think it resets the stored knowledge of how you like to drive the car.

      So don't do it.

Also, the twincharger produces best fuel economy if you go fast initially and then back off.... vs going slowly up to speed. Use the charger to get you moving basically.
*Disclaimer - Don't rely on me, seek your own professional advice. Audi R8 E-tron. 230kw 4500nm! (not a typo).

        Hi,
I had booked my Jetta 118 TSI 1.4 in June. I paid $ 35,500 for a new car (still not deliverd) and got blue graphite paint and a VW original blue tooth added in that price. I believe this is a good price??

I also got the VW extended factory warranty added for $ 1012 (inc GST). This is the best price I could find.

I am also thinking of adding the 5th dimention package which protects the paint surface and interior surface life long. Also no need to wax the car for ever and is insured against marks, tree gum/sap etc etc. They are also throwing window tinting as well. All for $ 1495. I hope this is a good option to have.

        Cheers

Dont get the 5th dimension or any paint protection package. Its a waste of money.

Could you elaborate a bit more and help me decide? It also includes window tinting. I know the factory installs some tinting, not sure if I need a darker tint?

            Thanks for your help.

Interior can be done with $20 of spray on Scotchguard.
              Exterior with $100 of sealant.
Have a talk to Carcareproducts on this forum. They can recommend a product & apply it for you if you aren't into DIY.

Tint $220 at any number of suppliers. Rob at Hunters Hill Window Tinting is near you.

Read the T&Cs and you will find it almost impossible to comply with the paint protection warranty.

There is no such thing as never needing to wax again as all wax or sealants will wear off over time including 5th dimension.

If you regularly clean and polish and seal your paintwork, you will not need paint protection.

This is what I got from the dealership. This is a summary only.

                  ================================================
Here is a short summery of the warranties for you to read:-

Leather & Vinyliscolourment of treated surfaces from commonly consumed liquids or foods, cracking, splitting and fading. should any surfaces permanently stain fifth Dimension will clean, repair or replace (at its option) the damaged section and re-apply the treatment - provided you follow simple stain removal instructions.

Paint: Fading, oxidisation and damage caused by bug splatter, bat & bird droppings tree sap and other aggressive and damaging chemicals. No Yearly inspections of the paint work all we ask you is wash your car with soap and water once a month and that you never wax or polish the vehicle.

Fabric & Carpet: All staining from oil, water and dirt based foods or liquids. If surfaces should become permanently stained 5th Dimension will clean, repair or replace stained surfaces and re-apply the treatment.

Window Tinting Film: Bubbling, Cracking, fading, warping & peeling. If this does happen we will replace the damage window film.

Normally the package is $1795.00 without the complimentary tint valued at 545.00. Until the 30th of June the complete package is $1495.00 inc of all your government chargers this is a saving of $845.00.

The Tint we provide is shatter resistant, blocks 99.7% of UV rays, reflects 60% of heat and glare entering the vehicle..

I hope this information has been helpful please don't hesitate to phone me if you have any questions.

Straight away you can see the lies - what tint job is worth $500+ unless it's a big bus?

Dumb question: The 5th Dimension was being peddled by "the aftermarket rep"? (not the car sales person). And it was a bubbly, very friendly, reasonable looking woman (probably with a good rack & low cut top)?

It's well known that paint protection, fabric protection & dealer tint are all marketed as some wonderous product but the reality is the product is no different to what can be bought elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

So far 2 against, 0 for

                      Hi Brad,
You are spot on and funny,

She was an after market rep not the sales person. She was bubbly and very friendly (the same thoughts came to mind when I met her) and reasonable looking.

This was at Chatswood Classic cars.

                      I am still smiling.

Mine was at Campbelltown. They come out of a machine.

Seriously, get Rob to come to your home/work & tint your car.

Get one of the Carcareproducts dudes or Dan (from this forum too) to come & do a Stage1 detail with sealant (probably $300) and come back every whatever to do a top-up & your car will look better & stay shinier/cleaner.

                          Thanks Brad,
I am almost convinced to look at alternate options. I will be interested to know if anyone did fell for this or I am the only sucker. I will post a new thread just for this discussion.

                          Cheers

Plenty of suckers out there. They screw the dealer down to the last cent & then the dealer gets it back via the aftermarket lady.
