  • R32 or GTI Pirelli?

hey guys, I am in a bit of a crossroads and am in the market for either a 08 R32 or New Gti Pirelli just after some advice and opinions on what would be better?

If i was to pick again, I'd probs go the GTI/Pirelli. I'm not saying I'm not happy with the .:R, cos I do love it. I think I'm only saying this cos I have been in a few quick GTIs and I have been corrupted by the boooooost hahahaha.

More mod options for GTI aren't there? Easier/cheaper to get and mod to be faster than an R32.

Thanks for the reply guys, another thing that was in my mind was i have a son that is keen to drive it as well (20yr old) I spoke to one of the dealers and they said it would only be 35 dollars extra on the insurance (wonder if thats true or not). Would it be more to get him covered with the gti because its turbo?

If you are planning to mod it slightly the gti would be a better bet but if you are going to mod it a lot, go for the R because with a turbo its a monster and has AWD to handle the power

Id go for the R over a gti any day. You get a better looking car, sronger and longer lasting engine with real power (compared to GTis fake turbo power), you get AWD which helps a lot especially in wet. I drove a GTi a year ago and even with traction control on it spun the front wheels in 2nd. R handles much better and it sounds awesome. Pirelli is just a bit more powerful GTi with silly seats and auto gearbox.
I don't think that im biased, i did my homework before i got my R. Get an MK4 if you want a really good and unique car

$35....I wonder where they pulled that number from.

In Victoria a 20 year old would not be allowed to drive the Pirelli, because it is turbocharged, but he can drive the R.

I own an R, which was bought after my wife decided she liked it much more than the GTI. Eighteen months after delivery, I'm so glad I took her advice.

if you have say another 5-6g to add the turbo.... and say another grand for insurance, especially when you'll have a under 25er driving the car..

Thats how it feels to me. NA engines feel strong and tough, turbo engines feel like there is something that forces the engine to rev up. thats why i'd go for an NA any day. but thats just me

Yeah it's a different feeling for sure, and it certainly creates different driving attitudes as well.

But I'm old and fat enough to be able to happily enjoy driving it either sedately like an old diesel (in which case it's not exactly spritely), or on the other end of the spectrum where it's just absolutely mad.

I wouldn't trade the 240+kw and 420+nm for a different driving attitude! When that power kicks in, there's nothing like it.

But yeah, it does force you to drive like a grandma or a loon, unlike a larger NA engine which tends to calm you down - coz you know that monster surge isn't there to tempt you.

I've come from a _very_ long line of V8's so I understand completely.. But I still wouldn't trade the madness.

i'd go Pirelli simply becos it's turbo.

it's rarer, weight less, easy to mod and cheaper to buy.

                          what more do you want??!!

Aint cheaper to buy after you mod it....

My Pirelli will owe me the better part of $75k by the time I'm all done.
