Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My R32 is leased, and the fuel card has been for Caltex. This has worked pretty well, as I've almost always been able to get Vortex 98, and have never had any issues with the fuel, or with finding a station.

But, my company has just decided that we all have to move to Shell/Mobil and are giving us cards for each. Are there any noticeable differences between their 98 octane products, or is it all marketing and they come out of the same tank at some point.

It varies from place to place. If you add your location to your personal profile a local may be able to tell you who supplies what in your area.

I have to say i perfer Vortex 98, i filled on on V-Power the other day just to give it a try, and i have to say i didnt really like, seemed a tad slugish then usual. But then again could be me just being paranoid...

btw, if you up late at night and need to fill up, i say stay away from Caltex in Cartwright, bit of a shifty place...

Im on Vortex 98 too. As I've said in the other fuel threads, I get more milage out of Vortex than i do with BP Ult. and the performance difference, if any, is minor. I've had poor milage and performance from both V-Power and Mobil 8000

We had both shell and mobil cards - the synergy 8000 is WAY WAY better than the V-power - it seemed more consistnet to me.

2 good batches there's little difference, but every 4th or 5th fill with shell I seemed to get a dud (like the octane had dropped or the mix of cleaners wasnt right).

So i basically stopped using shell unless I was desperate and ran the 8000.

I've had the same experience with V-power, every now and then a bad batch, car would miss mainly noticable at highway speeds, then all good again so have changed to caltex as it seems more consistent. Pity you can't use it. Only used the mobile fuel a few times without problem.

BP Ultimate seems to be the best for me. I had preffered V-Power in my previous car but my current 1.8T hates it for some reason. Haven't had any problems with mobil, just that there aren't as many stations as BP etc.

OT: needed fuel in Mudgee on Sunday, and couldn't get 98 anywhere in town. Grr.
