Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The whole idea of huge pressure is extra fine mist which gives extra evaporation, see Autospeed again "World's best intercooler sprayer".

Just remember it is indeed 240V, so be careful and label your wires for the poor mechanic!!!
hey cog, just with regards to this-

on the autospeed pages, it says that the washer pump is a simple holden one, 12v, and that it does the job for light-duty applications.

in this respect, and seeing as, as far as i can tell, the oem washer pump in the polo (in my case) is a 12v, is it safe to presume that this system (re-plump, push forward on wiper stalk to trigger IC spray) is simply an on-demand version of the autospeed one, and that your 240v washer pump will be an improvement (big) on the autospeed one?

    cheers!

That's right. Doing the "polar" windscreen washer version will be a nice improvement. Going 240V with super high pressure just makes it better again, and makes the water go further. It's all about droplet size, higher pressure equals smaller, equals faster and better evaporation equals better cooling. I would do a windscreen version in the very least, it's a good move, easy, and will only help.

Remember, that farmers will spray thier plants with detergent, as it attracts the dust, which ultimately soaks up the water, and thus keeps the plants well watered. I don't however think u want your core filling up with dirt... just something to keep in mind during your build.

But please, keep going, as I'm keen on seeing this through, and would like to put something similar onto the Pirelli.

i think farmers use detergents for a number of other reasons but have never heard the dust therory.
farmers use detergent as a surfactant material that facilitate and accentuate the emulsifying, dispersing, spreading, wetting, or other surface modifying properties of liquids

the detergent acts like a wetting agent because it breaks the water's surface tension and allows it to pass throught the gaps easier rather than being reppelled by the waxy organic coating

they are also used as "spreaders" to aid even coverage of cemical spread over the leaf blade of plants and be more readily absorbed by the leaf tissue. These "spreaders" are designed to work quickly but do not last long as the greater but thinner surface area dries quicker.

be careful using too much deterget as it can foam up!!

i think you are missing the main point. put the agricultural persecptive aside and look at the key principals. will help with atomization of the water particals, allow better distribution, and facilitate quicker evapouration. all thing that will help reduce heat soak.

                        Nice One!!

                        Hi Polarbear,

First of all, nice work to see a fellow TSI'er, in white too which looks sic. Second, that's a great idea.

What's your second phase? Thinking of doing the exhaust &/or ECU flash? I'm thinking of doing the exhaust in about 10 months time, when I get the kms up. A bit worried of voiding my warranty in the first 12 months, but, after that, bright it on....
