Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • $30 - 30 minute IC water spray *No wiring or pump needed*

I hooked up the right side outlet of the window washer pump (when facing the front of the car) that goes to the rear window sprayer, to a spray nozzle in front of intercooler.

Just pull off the hose going to the rear and put on your hose going to your spray nozzle. Nozzle is from Autospeed.com and is part of their water spray kits.

To activate just push your right indicator stalk forwards as if you were activating rear spray.

The short path to the spray nozzle from the pump ensures almost instant on!

wouldn't this make the rear wiper sweep on a dry window??

have you noticed any positive affect?

        That's pretty nifty, Polar
And of course, the more you use it, the lighter the car becomes

Yes but he has now added more weight to the front of the car with that new brass spray nozzle and fittings.
Thats got to affect the cornering performance of the car.

The other problem with the mod is because you have to push the wiper stalk forward you wont be able to hold it there cause of all the extra G's.

Yep, its great. It just kills any heat soak and gets you back to the kinda temps you see in the first 5 mins of driving the car.

So far when car was cruising and was showing 35' intake air temp. I whacked the spray on for a few seconds on and off and it went down to 30' and stayed there while I cruised.

I am planning on adding to the system by fitting a second water source that drains into the factory washer bottle to double its capacity.

I take it you don't put an additive in your washer fluid?

I'd love a CAI in my TDI and the one I've seen on Cogdocs car frees up a bit of space under the bonnet that would be perfect for a separate water tank...

I am still putting bug spray washer fluid cleaner stuff in .

Should keep the bugs that are splattered on the A/C core from going solid and blocking airflow too!

Spent 30 mins picking about 100 bugs out of it including about 100 small stones that had bent the fins and were blocking holes.

Anyhow this system is just to test how effective and useful a water spray is with our fairly good front mount coolers.

If it works well on a hot day then I plan to move to a STAGE 2 system. Separate pump that I have with a microswitch for full throttle and also a toggleswitch for running it while in cruise. This will probably draw from the factory bottle but I will be mounting an extra bottle above the factory one that also drains into it.

I keen to see what stage 2 is, but I have to admit that I did chuckle when I noticed that bug cleaner is still going in

Remember, that farmers will spray thier plants with detergent, as it attracts the dust, which ultimately soaks up the water, and thus keeps the plants well watered. I don't however think u want your core filling up with dirt... just something to keep in mind during your build.

But please, keep going, as I'm keen on seeing this through, and would like to put something similar onto the Pirelli.

Mebbe you could get hold of a HID style washer bottle? That's about double the capacity isn't it?

                        3.5l standard to 5.0l bi-xenon.

You can also add the low water warning to the bi-xenon bottle and an additional pump.

Nice work Polar, and you've beat me to it.

Am just working out how to trigger mine, but autospeed again have a great modification to their fuel mixture meter called "low cost intercooler water spray controller", which looks the berries to me, but they have other, more "intelligent" versions. I'm sure you're already onto it though somehow...

Still, you can have your squirter motor, I'm going 218 psi at 240V. Perhaps more "car wash" than "intercooler spray"?

Flea bay UK actually and MAN they aren't cheap, even on there. RRP just over $100 here! Be a good idea to try and find a half stuffed coffee machine and have at it. The pump you want is an italian ULKA, but then I'm sure others would do.

The whole idea of huge pressure is extra fine mist which gives extra evaporation, see Autospeed again "World's best intercooler sprayer".

Just remember it is indeed 240V, so be careful and label your wires for the poor mechanic!!!
