Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    As per topic title...

    Well I did today!

Left the indicators on, turned the car off. And that side parkers stayed on, not both, just the one side, and the car beeped at me.

    WHY IS THIS SO!?

Your first VW I take it?

All models have done this since about 1967.

It's a parker feature to just light up the road side lamps in dark and foggy laneways at night.

that's cool as. Never knew that either,. Mainly cause I don't leave my indicators on!

although my audi doesn't beep, maybe that's cause the horn doesn't work...hmmm

Well, what was scary was I'd just been giving it some herbs, and hit a few bumps maybe a bit hard. I must say I was freaking.

I sitll don't understand it tho hey. Seems a little odd. People would clean up half the car, thinking it was a bike or something!

Hahaha I was going to say that before i clicked on the link and realised you already had!

Crazy VW and their crazy thoughtfulness eh? There's lots of neat little tricks they've done over the years that a lot of people don't really notice.

It depends on the wiring in the local market at the time. You can sometimes have two cars of the same year one with, one without the feature.

Typically in narrow european streets they park with two wheels on the kerb and the roadside parkers on. (or so I'm told) .

Some BWWs do the same thing.

The VW logos on the hubcaps DO NOT turn into swastikas when the car is moving.

This has been a feature on all European cars for many years, certainly Golf III has it.

Saves heaps of battery and lights up the outside parkers only,if the switch is correctly set.

Now watch all the people tell you you've left your lights on!

I had this feature on a '71 beetle I owned many years ago, trouble with those was it was hard to tell if it was the parking feature or the high beam cause they had crap lights on them and that was the 12 volt system

Nah they weren't quite that bad but they were nothing like the new lights of todays cars

It didn't tell me about that... Didn't tell me about launch control either... Acutally, I think my manual is missing quite a bit!
