Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • United Grey GTI (where are they?)

Hi guys, I have one of these on order and hopefully will have it in early March, the car is for my wife but I'll sneek and drive as often as I can She picked the colour but to be honest I would've picked silver. I have seen some pretty nice pics of the UG on the net but have never seen one on the road.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this colour. Either everyone hates it therefore haven't seen any on the road or the UG is hard to get?

From pictures the UG looks pretty good and I do like how the black and red on the front grill goes with the UG.

UG is a very nice and neutral colour. Looks great in all situations I think, but won't set the world on the fire... Sounds perfect for the wife

we have one and we love the colour. i think it matches the black plastic bits quite well (i have no plan to colour code).

UG was not a "standard" car for Australia and had to order them in until i think 2008. that's why not many UG GTI on the road and i like the uniqueness.

i rather like it. its different for a GTI however it doesnt stand out like candy white or silver. i spotted one a few weeks back http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=25810

overall i am so much happier with my CW GTI. then again i am biased

UG in the GTI is horn, it would have been my choice. Whilst I think the louder colours, and especially white look great, UG hides the dirt very well.

As you say the black and red accents of the GTI are a great contrast to it.

UG was first choice for my wife and second choice for me next to the White.
It took a bit of convincing, and I think it grow on her as a favorite.

I like how the UG accents the red lip stick of the GTI

I was considering CW or UG in the GTI's..
                      Prefer flat colours though.

But isn't anyone worried that UG is the same colour as the road? May be worth driving around with lights on during the day.

That's exactly how I feel about this colour and similar ones, nice colour in it's own right (not mine personally) but not a very safe colour on the road. That's something that always amazes me, the Govt. is always crying out about the death toll on our roads and ways to reduce it, but yet some manufacturers seem to be putting out colours that you would think had been blended to match the road

I know this is not the main cause of most accidents but surely a vehicle which is finished in a more visible colour would only help to reduce the carnage.

Geez Russ, you KNOW you're getting on when you start being THAT sensible.

What's next, parkers on all day - a Volvo??

                            He IS right, though.

My last car was very similar to UG.
I loved that colour - never really looked filthy and polished up beautifully.

Around town it's not so much of an issue, but on the open road it actually disappears to oncoming traffic (especially on those hot days). Daylight running lights or low beams are essential. Even fogs (don't normally recommend them) are a good idea during the day.

I suppose you would ride a motorbike with the lights off too if you could .

Does sound a bit paranoid but just saying it's not the safest colour and if people can't see you there's more chance of a getting hit.

It just needs to be a bit more metallic or something but agree BarneyBoy it comes up nice after a wash and the colour doesn't show the dirt too much either.
