Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • which side is your handbrake on?

just looking at the VW brochure just then and noticed that some cars have the handbrake on the drivers side, others the passengers side.

me? 08 gti relli i have my handbrake on the passenger side.

is anyones different or are they all passenger side?

    just curious.

AFIK they are all passenger side. it saves VW manufacturing costs by keeping them the same as the left hand drive models made for europe and the US... same goes for the indicator stalks...

The photos are taken of left hand drive cars and for RHD markets they mirror the photos and then touch up things like the stereo.

For example look at the photo where the handbrake is on the drivers side, the RNS510 looks correct but the power button has been left on the drivers side whereas the button on the passenger side has no indicator on it.

A bit of a rush job in the 'shop.

That's a BIG job to have to do, and even though they've done quite a lot well, there's quite a few errors as well.
Even the gear knob reads arse-about. The labels on the head unit don't have any perspective on them. Forgot to flip the W button. Forgot the light switch and indicator stalk.
Yet they've flipped all the vent controls, the GT badge, heater switches... oh well - depends what the budget vs the time frame was...

Wouldn't doing all that to the photo be considered false advertising?

You can't get a car the way it is pictured in the photos.

            They cover themselves nicely...

But are you really going to sue them for flase advertising because your button(s) are on the "wrong", but more correct side??

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

That said I reckon it would be annoying grabbing your drinks from the holder if it was on the other side of the handbrake.

Be a passenger in your car with a drink and you will see what I mean.

I am pretty sure that the BMW, Audi, and Mercedes brochures I have seen just use pictures of the LHD cars with a disclaimer. They don't bother flipping the photos just for us.
