Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • right time to buy a GTI

Hi, is now a good time to buy a GTI or would better deals be heading our way in the near future as the Golf VI GTI gets closer to our shores in Aug/Sep?

I am currently in the market and almost bought a mazda sp23 but wasn't happy with the dealer not budging at all on price. I know the GTI is 10K more but it's hard to pass it up if good deals are heading our way.

There are no more GTI's being made, what is in the country is pretty much it. Given that most of the stock will be sitting at dealers and if you want one at another dealer across the country you'll have to pay for it's shipping I doubt you will get a really special deal. Look at the prices people have paid here and you'll get a feel for the prices but remember that your choice of car is going to be limited and you'll have to be flexible on colour etc.

There's been no confirmation on the GTI date into this country, it may be this year but I wouldn't bet on it and there will be long waiting periods and no discounting just like when the Mark 5 GTI came out.

VW is doing driveaway pricing right now on Golfs so if there is one in stock at your dealer, you should be able to get a good deal.

Dealer told me yesterday they just did a new 3door GTI driveaway for $39k with DSG and leather.

Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Which dealer was this? I would pay $40-$41K drive away
for the 5 door DSG cloth seats, wouldn't mind the sunroof though as i like it in my liberty. That would be a good deal to me. Damn couldn't go looking on the weekend and next weekend might miss out if they are doing deals like that.

BTW I'm in melbourne, anyone know a good dealer here?

Some one at Work just bought a White GTI, DSG, Leather, and Sunroof 45K driveaway.

They did Charge him $400 for a $20 cable and told him that was his iPod connection. He is getting the proper thing done now. But be careful
