Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Highest MFD external temperature?

    Hi All,

just out of interest, does anyone know what the highest external temperature reading on the MFD is? Mine went up to 49.5 and I was hoping it would hit 50 and above. This made me wonder if the temperature is limited to 49.5C just like the instantaneous fuel at 49.5L/100km?

    Any thoughts?

    External Temps

Don't kow what the high and low points are for the probes range but mine got to 50.0 yesterday. I don't know if they go higher. On the other end of things, I've had it as low as -4.5!

Doesn't really matter though, inside the car always seems to be 20.0 - 21.0

On the VR6 (which would use a similar sensor), if you short the wires you get 50C, so I assume thats the limit of the setup. This is probably reasonable here on planet earth.

In the wifes Subaru we have seen everything form 1C up to 48C...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Hmmm haven't had mine go that low before, but it would be interesting to see.

On my Dad's MY07 GTI he can get 99.9L/100km instantaneous consumption as per what Mischa said.
There is no reason why the MFD couldn't display a similar temperature however it would really depend on what type of temperature sensor has been installed and what it's measurement range is.
            Cheers,

While driving through windsor on the way back from Lithgow recorded 44.5C on the MFD. Where did you get your reading of 49.5C?

                  Down in Keysborough, Victoria.

It's now reading 21.0C much more comfortable now.
