How good do you think the 1st year apprentice changing your oil is at detecting these things??

You mean the one that get's supervision and proper VW training and only works on VW cars?

Or do you mean the one that works at Midass/Ultrat/Kmarse/Repcon and get's no supervision, no training on VW cars and works mostly on 20 year old cars?

I take the former to do mine.

No, I'm thinking about the small time VW specialist that does all the work him/herself and knows the cars inside out.

That would be changing your oil, since I do my own servicing.
But, if the 1st year apprentice is asked to detect anything on VW car at VW dealership he would have the factory tool to rich for and more qualified mechanics around backed by the VW factory.
Who would help him (or sould I say to your car?)at the ultra tune or similar?
