Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It must be out of date, huh?

Correct, That is the old ECU, not the new one.

Unfortunately the website still has some gaps in it (like the Tiguan tuning we are now doing is not listed) - but I have the German retail price list in front of me!

I just wish we had the old ECU - life would be much simpler!

Good lord, that makes their web site more than 18 months out of date (as that 1st ECU was never sold here) and that means their web site doesn't make mention of the 2nd ECU at all!

BTW, it wasn't meant as abuse - but when faced with apparently conflicting information, it was confusing to say the least.

Never-the-less at $100/kW, the fact remains that it's still at the very top end of upgrades. Well done however, in keeping your cool. It bodes well for your business

I think we all know that TSI's are already 140kw so 5 to 10kw peak power is great but the real benefit to us is in the torque increase in the mid range from 240ish to 290. That will be the biggest difference.

I am sure the tune probably also alters throttle sensitivity and other things so that the entire driving experience changes.

Peak power is just a number but day to day driveability is the key, which the tune's seem to deliver on the GTI's every time. On our GT's I am sure it will be no different.

Why is it 18 months out of date? There are still cars on the road with the MED9.5 ECU all over the world and they sell a product for that car. Do you expect them to remove a product once the car is no longer sold new? The website is in Germany, not Australia so why wouldn't they list it.

Given that the programming of the MED17 ECU's has just been announced I assume that the Tiguan and Golf MED17 maps will be listed shortly on the website.

              Talk about nitpicking

What other mods can you do that get that sort of power for those dollars. If you look at it in this context it stacks up pretty well. You can use the money you saved by buying a cutdown GTI and now keep a GTI in view for longer as it pulls away at the lights

I don't see how you come to that conclusion, it is the Oettinger German website not the Australian site. The 1st ECU was sold in European markets and as such would still be current for that market. The fact that the 2nd ECU is not listed would reflect that the tune has only just been released.

Time to back off I believe.

                Cheers

Yep, the web site is out of date - no excuses there,

We only just received the new pricing & the new ECU list two weeks ago ourselves.

Good news is, we can now do the Golf VI with the BLG, BMY, CAVD, CAXA, CAXC engines.

                    Thats the 103kw, 110kw, 116kw, 90kw, 92kw versions of 1.4 engines alone with the new ECU's.

There are another 4 variants of the 2.0T, and a couple of 1.6's also in this line up - all with the new ECU.

Sadly none of the MKVI stuff has made it to the website yet either.

                      a) It's out of date because it doesn't list the ECU upgrade that has apparently been around for at least 18 months (see:http://www.oettinger.com.au/oau_vwgolf5_et.html) and available through local dealers - I know because I priced one in 2007 - $2,200. So either their German site is out of date, or their Oz site is wrong and their dealer in SA is a wanker. You choose. I can only make decisions based on what's put in front of me.

                      b) I realise it's a German site, but after all, it WAS the link that Guy provided for me (see post #3

"Time to back off I believe."

Back off from what? Guy said the Euro price was 1390, yet the link to the site he gave me said 990. We cleared that up by him explaining that was for a flash on cars older than the Oz delivered GTs. Hence, their site is out of date.

Jeez, guys - keep up will ya?

"Oh geez, if I owned a TSI I'd be going to TOWN on it over smugness like that..."

You know how people who live under the flight path don't even hear the whining of the jets any more?

That's just Maverick trawling for a bite. He has inadequacy issues, you know... [jkng]

Now everyone take a deep breath...

Just wrapped headers and dump pipe. Headers takes ages with a cable tie on the end of the wrap to fish it in and out BUT it's worth the effort can't wait to see how this reduces engine bay temps and Intake Air temp on my scangauge2.

Getting all my other stuff sorted nicely before a tune.

If people don't want to spend the big bucks, at least they can feel good in the knowledge that at least one of the tuning companies has "cracked" the ECU, so the other more realistically priced alternatives won't be too far away.

We really need to get feedback from a few test members.... a dyno chart or 2 and possibly a drag strip time thats .5 lower than a stock car can manage.
