Jetta TFSI brakepads...suggestions?

hey guys
i dont know about you golf/jetta owners but my jetta seems to be emitting a crapload of brake dust. i'd wash my car and my wheels (which are hard to clean since the stock 17" rims that come with the jetta tfsi has so many spokes and is a bitch to clean) and after a day or 2, it'd go from silver to a gunmetal gray colour due to all the brakedust...

can anyone suggest brakepads which are just as good, if not better than the stock brakepads and ones which don't emit much brake dust?

p.s are the brakepads on the golf the same as the jettas?

Have complained to VW numerous times.

VW told me to drive and brake harder when i first complained - didnt make a difference.
I Didn't pay a reasonable sum of money for the car to have brakes that squeek every time i pull up at lights. Plus if you brake harder just makes the ride mroe uncomfortable in standard traffic.

Yeah, mine are squeeking a bit too... Its quite annoying, considering I've got a hardcore set up on the other car and they are low dust, and no noise until just before they come up to track temp.

My solution to the dust was just paint the wheels the brake dust colour... I think with a machined rim it should look pretty darn good!

That cure has the opposite effect on me. Any time that I see a car with 4 black (or dark) wheels, it just looks like all of them are dirty......

My bro told me to use CT18 Superwash on my Classixs wheels and it works wonder! It's heavy duty concentrated cleaning gel for marine, etc.

I'd assume they are identical, given the Jetta is basically a golf with a boot.
Must say whilst I get dust, it's no worse than other new cars I've had, but I've not had any squeaking apart from a little the first few days.

I seem to recall from memory greenpads had a decent performance pad that generated little dust?

I would be careful putting a pad in with a harder compound than the oem pads. Unfortunately since they no longer use asbestos in brake pads (which of course from a health point of view is a good thing) I think you can always expect more dust from your pads and although it's a P.I.T.A it's better than warping the rotors.

I noticed the GTI is fitted with TRW Lucas pads. I put these on one of my last cars and loved them.

The golf seems to eat them fast

If i wear my brake pads out I'll be replacing them with the items from GCorp. I've bought from Gerard before in the past and so far nothing he has sold me has ever performed differently to how he described it which is more than i can say for most car part resellers.

Pain in the arse bit will be the rotors. I'm rather suprised at the lip my rotors have developed in 10,000km. I knew they would wear quickly but wow. I'm not even that hard on the brakes.

I can only presume they're similar to those in the comfortline. 1 week is all it takes to change the rims to several shades darker. Hate em.

Also hate how the pedal is nothing nothing nothing face through windscreen. pain in the ass to modulate.

Would be going hawk (with dba slotteds) when the time allows.

My Jetta TFSI is only 2 weeks old and the Classixs are filthy! I have only driven about 600KMs during this time as well.

I am gonna give the wheels a good polish and wax the next time I detail the car. That should help make it easier to clean the wheels in future.

I hate the way the (back in particular) rims blacken up so quickly.

Some Autoglim has helped a fair bit, but I agree with Comfortline - the brake pedal is more like a brake Switch! I remember well the first time I tried left foot braking - I think my eyeballs actually struck the inside of my sunnies!

the pads do affect the pedal response, but not that much.

i do find the golf's brakes a bit over assisted. there's no need for so much initial bite on a road car.

I agree, I found the Golf GTI (and Skoda Oct vRS) are much too sharp on the first touch - if i want to stop a bit harder I am perfectly capable of pressing the brake pedal harder. It is particularly noticeable if you drive other vehicles that are not over-servoed.

I also find the excessive brake dust a (cosmetic) nuisance.

One of the best things about my Jetta FSI is that the brakes have never squeeled at all,and work well,after 36000 kilometers work as well as day 1.
The alloys,Atlantas ,have to be thuroughly detailed once a week,but then they shine and sparkle.
