query - gearbox whine

Vectorsink, not sure if you are aware, but he does have a problem with his DSG. See this thread. I was not referring to the gearbox whine.

My DSG has a bit of a whine. Seems normal.

My car has a whine and I could not figure where it was coming from (being a little deaf does not help, too many aeroplanes and pilots whining in my ears) so I took it back to the dealer.
I was told it is the turbo but I think it is a combination of the DSG, diff, tyres and a bit of turbo. My VR6 had a similar sound as well and I am sure it was a combination of auto box and diff as there is no turbo.
I am not worried about it, but for future reference if it turns nasty, it is on the dealer records and mine. The car so far has only 7500km on the clock and I am thrilled with it.

DSG whine

Hi All,
My name is Ashley. First time poster and short time lurker! Im not a big poster on forums, however I do if I feel I can contribute something...enuf of that

I just picked up a 2006 Jetta TFSI. I too have noticed a whine which I attributed to the DSG. I am not terribly mechanically minded, so I could be totally wrong as to the source. The whine is apparent mostly in 1st and 2nd gear, generally I can hear it below 2500rpm. Next service I was going to query it with VW. I have had 2 previous turbo vehicles, and I cant believe from my experience it is the turbo! The turbo has an altogether different sound. It has been suggested that at least if its mentioned to VW in a service and the usual line "its normal" is replied, its on file, so should something happen in the future that could be related to it.

I love the DSG however!
