query - gearbox whine

Hi all

Good query for DSG owners who have an ear for noises.

Does anyone else experience what is definately gearbox whine? From about 30km/hr to 80km/hr under load i can definately hear gearbox whine. After 80 the wind and road noise overpowers it.

Anyone else experience this?

I doubt its part of the other issues I'm suffering but hey you never know.


ps: i see the hillarity in that i'm posting yet another annoying thread about gearboxes and how it could be seen as a "whine" as well. So don't bring it up

Yeah I have a bit of a whine in 2nd when accelarating hard. It doesn't appear to be abnormal to me, just the sound of the gears working.

Yom, with all the problems you've been getting mate I think it's time to crank up the stereo volume !!!

its what i already do to cover the creaks and groans from the suspension and dashboard.

Yom, i think its time to go to your dealership when there are most people there and start yelling as soon as you walk in. I did that and now people are afraid of me and treat me really well There is no other way

When you've worked this whine as far as you can, I suppose the next problem will be the turbo whine, and the tyres whine too, so there's another complaint for the future basket.

I reckon you'd whinge if you won Powerball.

A little gear whine is not worrying to me I'm just curious if anyone else notices it. Its not an unhealthy whine, its just interesting.

Mine also has a whine that sounds like straight cut gear whine but may be diff rather than gearbox, since it doesn't change with gearchanges. But it could be the turbo as well, this is my first turbo car and first FWD car, so the various noises are a learning curve.

Nah its definately a mechanical gear noise.

The turbo and the engine noise from this car is just so good. A wooshing with a mechanical roar thats not harsh at all.

I'm not worried about the noise (i will be when i can hear it singing to me at 100km/hr though) just curious to see if anyone else has noticed it. I rarely get a chance to listen to other GTI's around the place as they always seem to be moving too quickly to have a good listen!

and you get a bloody good one if you sit in THAT spot
passers by want to be in THAT spot...

i was gonna squeeze a "you got free straight cut geras" in there...but its gone. alas

Oh for heaven's sakes!!!!

If you got a problem with the DSG, go to a dealer and get it sorted. Whining about it on this forum won't help.

Yom. Did you read this? I respect and sympathise that you have a genuine problem with your DSG, but you now seem to be at a stage where you seem to be looking for problems to post about.

Get you car fixed mate. You deserve to enjoy your car.

He's not saying he has a problem with his DSG... he's asking if anybody else has noticed the whine.
If it was a huge concern to him I'm sure he would take it in to get it looked at.

He's just asking a question.
